    We are looking for someone to lead our specialists in graphics and photography and contribute your own specialist design and/or photography skills. Together you will help to translate client asks into creative ideas, and high-quality visual content, whether clinical or non-clinical, ensuring the integrity of the UHL brand and striving for innovation and excellence.

    With a strong focus on building and maintaining our internal relationships, developing our service offer for the future, overseeing our business-as-usual visual content and output and supporting a wide variety of non-clinical projects, this post is a critical one in ensuring our medical illustration team delivers an innovative, creative, and customer-focused service.

    Main duties of the job

    You will support the Deputy Director of Communications and Engagement in modernising processes in the Trust's medical illustration team and in delivering an exciting new program of work to develop a vision for the future of medical illustration at Leicester's hospitals. This will involve close collaboration with the specialists working in the team and the wider department as well as liaison with clinical and non-clinical colleagues of all levels across the organisation.

    You will also play a key role in work underway to refresh the Trust's branding, acting as a representative at meetings, using specialist creative knowledge to support development and ensuring effective collaboration to secure a high-quality end offer and efficient roll out across the Trust.

    Using your specialist knowledge and experience of either graphic design, medical illustration or photography and video, you will also contribute to technical delivery of key projects.

    You will lead the team, providing mentorship, advice and support and ensuring team members' professional development and line management needs are met.

    Training & Qualifications

    Essential

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent
  • Post degree experience of 2 years or more, equivalent to masters level, in at least one of the following specialisms: ographic design omedical illustration oclinical and/or PR photography and videography
  • oPositive attitude towards learning and development with a record of continuing professional development
  • Desirable

  • Postgraduate qualification in design, photography or illustration, or working towards this standard
  • Membership of professional body
  • Experience

    Essential

  • Experience of a broad range of design and/or photography disciplines
  • Demonstrates a high level of knowledge of current trends in the medical illustration profession and an expert understanding of the special requirements of communicating scientific, technical and medical information to both experts and patients
  • Use of design/editing/processing systems with significant experience of Adobe and Apple based technology and software
  • Confidence and skill in using design and/or video & photographic software to create high-quality assets
  • Developing plans and delivering them, including short-notice changes
  • Drafting briefing papers and correspondence at senior level
  • Experience of working in a customer/client facing environment
  • Experience of creating and giving presentations to a varied group of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrates a high level of detailed knowledge of appropriate legislation surrounding copyright and data protection.
