An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Specialised Respiratory Physiologist to join our expanding Paediatric Respiratory Physiology service.
The successful applicant would be expected to be proficient in a number of respiratory and sleep physiology investigations, with the ability to provide accurate and detailed reports for the clinical team.
Assess airways hyper-reactivity and respiratory tract inflammation
Simulate and assess patients' oxygen requirements during a flight and advise the patient and clinician their results and requirements.
To perform research based investigations complying with Good Clinical Practice (GCP).
Interpret and perform complex sleep investigations, for clinicians on the patient's condition and advise appropriate therapy
To be able to initiate, review and adjust treatment for patients with sleep-related disorders on Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP)

To lead on procedures which carry a recognised clinical risk.
To competently and safely perform the tests with the authority not to proceed if findings suggest the test is inappropriate or likely to be detrimental to the patient.
To plan and prioritise own duties, clinics and training activities to maximise service benefit.
To exercise a responsibility for personal and departmental day to day organisation and delivery of a quality assured respiratory function service.
To be responsible for discussing any findings of concern with the referring clinician.
To ensure the correct procedure is followed where aseptic techniques are utilised.
To clean equipment post procedure, to a high standard, in order to minimise infection risk.
To have a detailed understanding of Health and Safety procedures to ensure own, staff under supervision and patient safety / wellbeing.
To demonstrate effective communication with all levels of staff and patients (internal and external to the hospital) in order to maintain an efficient service.
To accurately log all activity performed, in order to provide accurate statistics to be used in the future planning and organisation of the Clinical Physiology Services.
To understand the need for and to maintain continuing professional development formalised through the appraisal process.
To attend departmental meetings to keep abreast of current issues affecting the department and to actively contribute relevant information
Promote the philosophy of patient centred care and establish and maintain a supportive relationship with the patient and their family at all times.
