Description
Are you looking for an opportunity to develop your leadership and strategic thinking skills, build your profile, and deliver against a broad range of the Prime Minister's strategic priorities?

The Department for International Trade (DIT) secure UK and global prosperity by promoting and financing international trade and investment and championing free trade.

Bilateral Trade Relations directorate (BTR) is responsible for a key part of this, leading all Government efforts to address bilateral market access barriers outside of live free trade agreement negotiations.

The scale of opportunity here is vast, with growing senior interest across Government.

The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) assesses that removing non-tariff barriers with just the G20 countries could add incredible £75 billion per year to UK exports.

We are looking for an aspiring and enthusiastic person - with a 'private office mindset' - to Head the BTR Director's Office.

BTR currently has 184 staff and a huge cross-cutting agenda.

Director BTR has to remain on top of current and emerging priorities to ensure BTR has the direction it needs to deliver tangible outcomes.

The role has plenty of scope to shape process, structures and policies.

Given the exposure to the full range of BTR policy-making and corporate priorities you will need to be able to ruthlessly prioritise, see the bigger picture, and be impeccably organised.

You would be responsible for:

  • Setting the direction of BTR Director's and direct management to a team of two.
  • Coordinating and overseeing BTR Director briefing & clearance process workflow, diary management, travel arrangements, inbox management and ensuring proactive commissioning and briefing is place for meetings, ruthless prioritisation; ensuring good order of information flow and rapid policy steers when required.
  • Ensuring BTR Director oversight of the BTR policy making process, guiding on when best to intervene/engage to both the Director and Directorate.
  • Lead for BTR Director communications internally and externally, including acting as a first point of contact with a range of senior stakeholders across Whitehall and externally.
  • Leading on the delivery of crosscutting corporate priorities, such as the 'People Plan. While ensuring that effective HR and Finance systems are in place within the team to monitor review and delivery. Overseeing 'Engagement Advocates', BTR Wellbeing Workstream and Social Committee.
  • Ensuring an effective corporate coordination rhythm across BTR by acting as Secretariat to corporate SLT meetings and monitoring delivery of corporate priorities.
