    An exciting opportunity has arisen for an ambitious, enthusiastic, and highly motivated Lower GI Cancer Navigator to join the General Surgery department at Watford General Hospital.

    This post is 37.5 hours per week (Monday - Friday).

    Main duties of the job

    The post holder will be responsible for the tracking of all patients on the cancer pathway so proficient IT skills are a necessity.

    The post holder will work closely with the Colorectal consultants, General Surgery management team, General Surgery secretarial team, Cancer nurse specialists, their immediate colleagues, and other administrative and clinical members of the trust.

    Detailed job description and main responsibilities

    The post holder will support the General Surgery clinical and administrative team with the smooth-running of the pathway for our Lower GI patients on a cancer pathway. This will include utilising clinics, building effective working relationships with consultants, nurses and the wider MDT and monitoring operations of all other outpatient activity to ensure the efficiency of the patient's pathway in line with the national CWT. It will also include contacting patients to confirm appointments and management of admin duties such as letters, escalating results where appropriate and being a point of contact for the patients and involved clinical teams.

    Education and Qualification

    Essential criteria

  • Educated to A level or BTEC / GNVQ level – or relevant job experience.
  • Experience as an NHS Administrator Good IT literacy.
  • Knowledge

    Essential criteria

  • Working knowledge of hospital computer systems (Patient Centre, Infoflex, CRIS).
  • Knowledge of NHS Cancer Waiting Times.
  • Desirable criteria

  • Knowledge of Lower GI cancer pathways.
  • Experience

    Essential criteria

  • Previous NHS administration.
  • Working in/ or with cancer MDT team(s).
  • Proven experience of working to deadlines and targets.
  • Experience of communicating complex instructions with sensitivity to patients and relatives.
  • Desirable criteria

  • Excellent communication, organisational and time management skills
