Research Assistant in Health Services Research


We are seeking to appoint a Research Assistant for a period of 36 months as part of the PINpoINTproject: Patient and public INvolvement In target differeNces in Trials.

The project is funded by the Medical Research Council's New Investigator Research Grant held by Dr Beatriz Goulao. It is part of Dr Goulao's research programme on patient and public involvement in numerical aspects of research.

The PINpoINTproject aims to develop methodology and tools to enable meaningful involvement of patients and the public in determining target differences in trials and assess their feasibility in practice.

It will include work to
- gather information from key informants, and systematically review and assess applied tools to seek opinions from patients on target differences;
- produce training materials to ensure a common understanding of target differences within research teams;
- co-design survey prototypes to elicit patient important differences;
- develop a guide to discuss target differences with public partners;
- pilot and assess the feasibility and impact of involving patients and public partners in defining target differences and develop guidelines to support it


Dr Goulao has established a network of national and international collaborators to support this work and form part of an international advisory group.

The research assistant appointed will have exposure to and opportunities to work with these world leading experts.

Other opportunities for training and development will be available including the option of doing a PhD alongside the research assistant position.


Salary will be at the appropriate point on the Grade 5, £30,619 - £33,348 per annum, pro rata and negotiable with placement according to qualifications and experience.
