About the Role:
As a Zookeeper at our Zoological Gardens, you'll play a pivotal role in the care, maintenance, and security of animal enclosures while engaging with visitors through presentations, tours, talks, and events.
Your Duties:
- Ensure the welfare and husbandry of zoo animals, overseeing enclosure cleanliness, food preparation, feeding, and safety.
- Supervise and guide volunteers, students, and researchers in enclosure maintenance and support.
- Participate in continuous training in animal husbandry practices.
- Maintain meticulous records of animal activities, including health, quarantine, and vet records.
- Patrol the zoo, manage visitor interactions, and handle unforeseen situations with tact and professionalism.
- Communicate effectively with various stakeholders, including veterinary care, law enforcement, PR, and management.
- Organise and execute interactive events, fundraisers, and hospitality programs involving the public.
- Operate and maintain machinery and equipment while adhering to safety protocols and regulations.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety policies, performing daily checks and managing key enclosures.
Essential Criteria:
- Experience: Minimum of one year of relevant zookeeping experience.
- Technical Knowledge: Understanding the role of a zookeeper and modern zoo practices.
- Customer Care Skills: Excellent interpersonal abilities with a focus on customer satisfaction.
- Supervisory Skills: Ability to lead and manage volunteers, students, and researchers.
- Communication Skills: Strong oral and written communication for various stakeholders.
- Organisational Skills: Effective planning, implementation, and maintenance of animal husbandry.
