About the Role:


As a Zookeeper at our Zoological Gardens, you'll play a pivotal role in the care, maintenance, and security of animal enclosures while engaging with visitors through presentations, tours, talks, and events.


Your Duties:

  • Ensure the welfare and husbandry of zoo animals, overseeing enclosure cleanliness, food preparation, feeding, and safety.
  • Supervise and guide volunteers, students, and researchers in enclosure maintenance and support.
  • Participate in continuous training in animal husbandry practices.
  • Maintain meticulous records of animal activities, including health, quarantine, and vet records.
  • Patrol the zoo, manage visitor interactions, and handle unforeseen situations with tact and professionalism.
  • Communicate effectively with various stakeholders, including veterinary care, law enforcement, PR, and management.
  • Organise and execute interactive events, fundraisers, and hospitality programs involving the public.
  • Operate and maintain machinery and equipment while adhering to safety protocols and regulations.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety policies, performing daily checks and managing key enclosures.

Essential Criteria:

  • Experience: Minimum of one year of relevant zookeeping experience.
  • Technical Knowledge: Understanding the role of a zookeeper and modern zoo practices.
  • Customer Care Skills: Excellent interpersonal abilities with a focus on customer satisfaction.
  • Supervisory Skills: Ability to lead and manage volunteers, students, and researchers.
  • Communication Skills: Strong oral and written communication for various stakeholders.
  • Organisational Skills: Effective planning, implementation, and maintenance of animal husbandry.
