The fellowship would offer exposure to the medical and surgical management of malignant and benign thyroid cases including surgery for patients with Grave's Disease.

In addition, regular parathyroid operations would also be undertaken. Outpatient commitments would include specialist thyroid clinics and teaching in ultrasound techniques.

From an academic perspective, the department is currently involved in 2 national clinical trials and the opportunity to undertake research will be encouraged.

We are also conducting a feasibility study into the use of Radio-frequency ablation for the treatment of thyroid nodules, one of only a handful of trusts to offer the service within the UK.


The fellow will also be responsible to teach junior doctors and nurses during ward rounds, outpatient clinics, emergency situations and operating sessions.

It is expected that fellows will join the on-call rota and will also undertake general ENT outpatient clinics.

The hospital provides services on a single site for all the major specialities including Accident and Emergency, Trauma and Orthopaedics, Intensive Care, Gynaecology and Obstetrics, Genitourinary Medicine, Ophthalmology, ENT, Maxillo-Facial surgery, paediatrics (including a NICU), general medicine (including all major medical specialities including CCU, Renal Unit, ITU and gastroenterology), radiotherapy and oncology, and all the general surgical specialities.
