An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Healthcare Support Worker in Day Surgery Unit.


The Day surgery Unit is part of the Surgical Group of the University Hospitals of Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust.

The Day Surgery Unit supports elective and emergency pathways. It is committed to ensuring that patients receive a high standard of care in a safe and caring environment. The adult ward has 31 beds and there are 9 paediatric beds. The Day surgery footprint also provides out patient clinic procedures, Ophthalmology Day unit and The DSU ambulatory elective care (Ultra Pathway)

Under supervision, will support trained staff in providing optimum patient care, ensuring adherence to Trust policy at all times. This position involves working in Day Surgery clinics, ward and Ophthalmology day unit.

Responsible for own actions, ensuring all patient interactions/observations are communicated to the appropriate healthcare practitioner

Undertake agreed clinical and non-clinical tasks, extending range following training in defined practices. Ensure referral to the appropriate healthcare practitioner where appropriate

Demonstrate technical and/or practical skills to ensure optimum patient management e.g cannulation/ECG where agreed

Organise own daily workload e.g use and cleaning of identified medical and non-medical equipment (beds, hoists etc)

Assist with personal patient care e.g bed-bathing and feedin

Frequent processing of patient property and valuables, ensuring accurate documentation where appropriat

Support less experienced members of staff in their orientation to the ward and rol

Utilise IT systems to secure accurate and timely patient dat

Support the team in expected and unexpected clinical events requiring high but unpredictable levels of physical effort according to patient dependency/clinical need
