    Aconbury 1 CARDIOLOGY/ CCU

    JUNIOR SISTER/CHARGE NURSE BAND 6 part time 24 hours

    £35,392 £37,350 (pro Rata)

    Anexciting opportunity has arisen for a part time Band 6 sister/charge nurse onAconbury 1 Cardiology/ Aconbury 2 Coronary care Unit.

    Weare looking for an enthusiastic and motivated member of nursing staff withexperience in cardiology to work with a well-established and knowledgeableteam.

    Youwill be a highly motivated forward-thinking professional who can demonstratethe ability to lead and support staff in a proactive and effective way. Youwill be expected to lead by example, providing evidence based care to thepatients within the ward. As the regional MI centre for Worcestershire andHerefordshire, the Cardiology unit at Worcestershire Royal Hospital providesangiography and angioplasty as well as a 24/7 PPCI service. In addition to thistemporary and permanent pacing and a complex device service is also based onsite.

    CCU/ Aconbury 1 is an acute cardiology unit comprising 10 CCU beds providing level2 care, to complex cardiac patients including those requiring CPAP, inotropicsupport and IABP therapy. We also have 20 cardiology beds providing step down careand monitoring aswell as a Cardiology day case.

    Main duties of the job

    Candidates should have recognised and proven leadership abilities and recent acute cardiology experience (or equivalent). A post registration qualification in Cardiac Care, High dependency or Critical care nursing alongside a mentorship qualification would be ideal. These could be developmental posts. Registered Nurses already established on cardiac and mentorship programmes will be considered.     Job description

    Job responsibilities

    To be responsible, with the support of the Ward Manager, for the day to day, smooth running of the Coronary Care Unit and/or Step Down ward. This will include leading a team of nurses to deliver a high standard of care.

    To ensure the maintenance of a high standard of nursing care at all times though the effective management of staff and resources and to be available for advice and support within the ward areas.

    Provide effective leadership and to act as a good role model, as well as to liaise with all members of the multi-disciplinary team and co-ordinate all aspects of care in the best interests of the patient and family.

    To supervise junior staff and to teach qualified and unqualified staff as appropriate.

    Achieve and maintain competence in identified mandatory and statutory training; develop and maintain clinical competencies, skills and knowledge which relate to the area of clinical practice ( Venepuncture, Cannulation).

    Person Specification

    Qualifications

    Essential

  • First Level Registration. Evidence of professional Development. Evidence of management experience and training. Team Leadership. Cardiac Practice/ Critical Care pathway or equivalent. Mentorship for assessment or equivalent.
  • Desirable

  • Previous experience within a band 6. Counselling course. Advanced Life Support
  • Experience

    Essential

  • Recent acute cardiac experience. IV administration. Venepuncture/cannulation Experience of appraisals. Support and develop Junior Staff. ECG analysis. Cardiac Rehabilitation. Cardiac Triage Knowledge of angiography. Pacing experience. Evidence of being up-to-date with current issues in medical and professional care. An in depth knowledge of the speciality. Proven management skills. Fully aware of principles of infection control.
  • Desirable

  • ITU/HDU experience. Acute General Medicine. Experience within cardiac catheterisation. Cardiac rehabilitation. Keyboard and Computer skills. Clinical Audit.
