    Description

    We are expanding our imaging team to support our Community Diagnostic Centre and are looking for experienced MRI radiographers to join us at this exciting time.

    The MR Radiographer role will work within a multidisciplinary team to support delivery both the acute hospital scanner and the community diagnostic centre providing opportunities for a wide range of both routine and complex MRI scanning.

    The team are supported by an Assistant Practitioner a Trainee Assistant Practitioner, support workers and admin teams.

    We currently have a 1.5 Tesla Siemens Aera which is due to be replaced within the next 12 months and we have plans for a Siemens Altea within the CDC facility.

    The department provides a 7 day service and as such a rotation through weekend shifts will be required to support this.

    Main duties of the job Evidence of knowledge and experience within an MRI department is essential for this post

    Cannulation skills are desirable, but training will be provided if necessary.

Job description Job responsibilities To work as a member of a highly skilled team delivering high quality Magnetic Resonance services across the trust.

    To take part in the provision of a high quality, timely and efficient MR Scanning service to patients of Bolton Hospitals NHS Trust.

    To work independently or part of a team and carry out or assist with a comprehensive range of Magnetic Resonance Imaging procedures.

    To participate in Continuing Professional Development, supervise and assist with the development of radiographers, student radiographers and other support staff.

    To assure good communications between patients, staff and colleagues are maintained.

    Clinical
    • To use relevant knowledge, training and experience to produce high quality images for a full range of magnetic Resonance scans covering a wide range of imaging techniques.
    • To work as part of the MR Team, delivering all aspects of MR scanning covering late shifts and weekend shifts.
    • To supervise and train the existing Assistant practitioner in their development of the role.
    • To prioritise own workload and the workload of others, and organise and perform own work effectively and efficiently.
    • To communicate with patients, relatives, carers, and other health care professionals to ensure patients are well prepared for the examinations they undergo. This will include the providing and receiving of complex and sensitive clinical information, and the explaining of procedures and examinations.
    • To establish and maintain effective communication with patients, in order to obtain their understanding and co-operation whilst undergoing MR Scans. These patients may be, for example, elderly and confused, children, physically aggressive or verbally abusive, have learning difficulties, be non-English speaking or be visually or audibly impaired,
    • To record all relevant information relating to patient attendances. This will include input of data into relevant computer systems, including CRIS, and any other media or systems as appropriate.
    • To provide specialist clinical advice, across a range of examinations, to junior staff.
    • To participate in audit of practice as per Clinical Governance requirements on a regular basis.
    • To cannulate patients when necessary with efficiency using ANTT.
    • To implement departmental policies, and propose changes to practice where necessary.
    • To ensure the highest standards of patient care are maintained at all times.
    • To act as the Team Lead when necessary, providing daily supervision of the MR Team.
    • To be accountable for own actions and to work within Codes of Practice.
    • To be responsible for a effectively prioritising workload and maintain the efficient running of the scanner.
    Education and development
    • To develop own skills and knowledge in all relevant area of practice and help in the development of others.
    • To undergo annual appraisal in order to identify training needs and personal development in line with the requirements and development of the service.
    • To undertake Continuous Professional Development as identified in Personal Development Plan and satisfy the requirements of the Health Professional Council Registration.
    • To attend all mandatory training sessions and complete all mandatory e-learning modules as required by the Trust.
    • To assist in the induction and preceptorship of Radiographers.
    • To assist with the training and supervision of Radiographers, Radiology Assistants and Assistant Practitioners in various work areas.
    • To assist with the practical training and clinical supervision of Student Radiographers in various work areas, and to carry out the assessment of competence of student radiographers following suitable training and practical experience.
    Clinical governance
    • To be responsible for the safe use of MR equipment and report any equipment failure or damage to a senior member of staff, ensuring that all relevant details are recorded in the appropriate Equipment Fault Log Book.
    • To assist with and contribute to the Departmental Quality Assurance Programme including participation in QA of the coils when necessary.
    • To assist in the completion of surveys, audits, clinical trials and equipment evaluation as required.
    • To support peoples equality, diversity and rights.
    • To follow and comply with all Trust and Departmental Policies, Procedures, Protocols, and Guidelines, reporting to senior staff any difficulties experienced in complying with these and assisting in identifying any changes that may be required.
