District based - location to be decided based on service need. Grey Book Station Manager A, 42 hours per week, permanent contract. Green Book £37,336 to £39,186 per annum (Scale J), 37.5 hours per week, permanent contract.


We are looking for a Senior Fire Investigation and Protection Officer to be appointed from within our current Fire Investigation Protection Officer establishment, to help develop and deliver our fire investigation and fire protection objectives, supporting the FIPO role and wider Fire investigation team across the county.

The post holder will work within both the Fire Investigation and Community Fire Protection teams.

Our Community Fire Protection Team plays a vital role in keeping the communities of Norfolk safe. We provide fire safety advice to businesses, local authorities, commerce, the public, and to professional and regulatory bodies.

We ensure compliance with legal requirements, and aim to educate and inform, in turn reducing risk, and preventing incidents before they occur.


Our Fire Investigation Team carries out fire investigations following fires, which is critical in supporting the risk management of fire in the community and providing detailed scientific information regarding the cause and origin of fires to the Police and Coroner's office.


Operating at a senior level, the core focus of this role will be to contribute to the development and delivery of Service and District plans in support of Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service fire protection and fire investigation objectives.


This will include undertaking fire investigations, and coordinating, supporting and managing the FIPO's and wider fire investigation team by providing advice, training, supervision to ensure the Service meets legal obligations when carrying out fire investigations.


The role will also require the post holder to enforce fire safety legislation and consult with Building Control Applications in non-domestic properties across Norfolk.

They will work in a range of different environments, including simple, complex and fire-engineered buildings, and will need to investigate and assess thoroughly and deliver detailed reports detailing outcomes.


To be considered for the role, you'll need to hold a Fire Safety Level 4 Diploma (or equivalent), Fire Investigation L5 qualification (or equivalent), as well as Level 2 qualifications in English and Maths.

You'll need substantial experience of undertaking fire investigations and fire safety inspections, along with fire safety enforcement experience. In addition, you'll need strong communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with members of the public.

Grey book applicants must hold a current Middle Manager ADC PASS and L2 Operational Safety Critical Assessment (OSCA).


The post holder will be required to provide standby cover out of normal working hours on a rota system including weekends and Bank Holidays to provide Fire Investigation and CFP expertise in line with agreed Norfolk County Council policies and procedures.


The post holder will also be required to travel to premises that may not be accessible by public transport and therefore the role requires possession of a full current driving licence.
