Postdoctoral Research Associate in Inorganic Materials Synthesis and Discovery - Sheffield, United Kingdom - University of Liverpool

    Default job background
    Full time, Fixed-Term/Contract
    Description

We are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate with expertise in the synthesis and characterisation of new inorganic materials. You will exploit recent breakthroughs in the identification of new functional materials families and use the full range of modern digital tools to accelerate their experimental work. An example of aligning these tools to discover new experimental structures is demonstrated in a recent paper (*Science*, **2024**, *383*, 739) in which the understanding of fast ion transport in solid electrolytes is redefined.

Expertise in the discovery of new inorganic materials and their structure determination is essential. We welcome applications from ambitious researchers with the skills to contribute to the project goal. The project environment will facilitate the development of new skills and the demonstration of creativity and leadership.

This position is a key part of the interdisciplinary team in the EPSRC Programme Grant "Digital Navigation of Chemical Space for Function". This team is developing a new approach to materials design and discovery that combines experiment with computation, exploiting both machine learning and symbolic AI. Experimental materials synthesis is the aim of the project.

You will have a PhD in Physics, Chemistry or Materials Science.

This post is available from 1st May 2024 until 30th November 2026.

Any applicants who are still awaiting their PhD to be awarded should be aware that if successful, they will be appointed at grade 6, spine point 30. Upon written confirmation that they have been successful in being awarded their PhD, they will be moved onto grade 7, spine point 31 from the date of their award.

The University has the right to close the vacancy early if it is deemed that there have been enough applications received.
