About The Role:

70% to 80% billable

20% to 30% on coaching, sales & practice

Lead Consultants lead by example. They demonstrate and shape best practices through hands-on delivery as part of project teams.

They represent what the best of TPXimpact looks like for their professions, working with our other design specialists on the ground.

They provide detailed direction to TPXimpact projects.

They take project leadership roles as or alongside Project Directors, by informing how user, organisation and community needs are understood and met.

They work with directors and partners on accounts and projects to plan future project work, responsible for ensuring that TPXimpact strategy, transformation, organisation design, change, impact and/or research work is well planned and well-executed.


Lead Consultants will report to the Consulting & Change Director and have responsibility for shaping and delivering improvements to the practice within TPXimpact.

Lead Consultants are part of the capability leadership team, working alongside the Head of Operations and OD&C Managers to improve practice.

Lead Consultants are credible experts and conveners, supporting designers, researchers, technologists and analysts across multiple projects and disciplines.

This is a capability and client work leadership role and will therefore be accountable for TPXimpact and client work objectives to delivery.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead and carry out handson consulting & design work as part of delivery teams
  • Detailed direction for consultants / designers on projects across multiple specialisms including organisation design, change, impact and technology
  • Coach consultants / designers in the project team to develop skills aligned with their objectives
  • Work alongside Partners and Directors to plan project work with meeting user, organisation and community needs at the forefront
  • Lead in developing and improving practices across all projects, aligned to the goals of the Consulting & Change practice and TPXimpact strategy
  • Lead in making our best practice repeatable and accessible for both perm staff and contractors through knowledge management
  • Lead on sales and pitches, ensuring a pipeline of work for Consultancy & Change
  • Lead risk, issue and project management
  • Lead on Org Design content for Community of Practice development and bringing together multidisciplinary teams to enhance TPXimpacts collective skills & knowledge
  • Line manage and coaching for senior consultants where applicable and support recruitment of new skills into the directorate

About You:

Essential skills

  • Experience working with and coaching all levels of stakeholders to build trusting relationships and embed change
  • A track record of leading other consultants / designers and researchers (across organisation and service design, design research, change and impact) to create quality, impactful and usercentred outcomes
  • A track record of leading the design of inclusive and accessible organisations, products and services, using ethical methodologies
  • Experience of defining bestpractice consulting, design, change, impact and/or research approaches and coaching others to use them
  • Experience of prototyping structures, processes, frameworks, products and/or services using a mix of methodologies to gain different insights at different stages of design
  • Experience of working with teams to ensure robust impact measurement of interventions, organisations, products and services, including theories of change and preparation of business cases
  • Able to operate in a fastpaced environment, balancing internal business priorities with external delivery and work on client projects
  • Experience leading projects on risk, issues and project management
  • Willing to travel in the UK to work with TPXimpact clients and for the purposes of conducting research as part of project delivery, and prepared to stay overnight on occasion if required.
