SHARE (Supported housing and respite emergency)

Transforming lives by promoting independence, enabling choice and maximising recovery

SHARE is an established Calderdale Council supportive housing scheme providing services to people who have mental health needs. The scheme is based near Halifax town centre. It provides short term supported accommodation, short stays, crisis beds and out of hour's telephone support line.

SHARE provides the opportunity for residents to address a variety of social issues ranging from housing/tenqncy management, budgeting to activities of daily living.

We also provide service users the possibility to have short stays away from the home environment enabling carers to have periods of independence in their lives.

The aim of the service is to support residents on the recovery pathway, so they lead more independent lives in the community, safely and to the best of their abilities.

The postholder will have a genuine interest in people, have good interpersonal skills, the ability to motivate and support individuals.

A good understanding of mental health problems is beneficial however a willingness to learn with a commitment to undertake training for the role.

As a 24hr service, hours of work will be flexible to meet the needs of the service. This will include evenings, weekends, bank holidays and sleep-ins when required.

The role involves assisting people, rather than giving direct personal care, but may involve a range of domestic duties. You may also be exposed to difficult situations such as emotional distress and self-injury. Control measures exist to minimise the risk and impact of this.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expect all staff to share this commitment.

Applicants to posts that are exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act will require a DBS from the Disclosure and Barring Service before the appointment is confirmed.
