    About the role

    Balfour Beatty are currently recruiting a Control & Protection Designer Draughtsperson to join their Power Transmission and Distribution Division in Newcastle.

    The main function of the role is to engineer the control and protection designs for electrical substation projects.

    Th ideal candidate will have:

    In depth knowledge of creating and preparing control & protection drawings: panel general arrangements, schematics, wiring diagrams, cable schedules, related drawings documentation and other outputs.

    Familiarity with substation electrical protection systems, the components used within those systems, and the standards applicable to their use.

    Familiar with quality assurance, business processes and applications

    What you'll be doing

    General Responsibilities:
    Ensure all duties are carried out in accordance with standard company quality, health & safety and environmental procedures and all relevant business processes.
    Contribute to the development and training needs of the design team as appropriate to skills level / experience.
    Planning Responsibilities:
    Upon contract award, liaise and co-ordinate with the C&P engineer, the engineering manager the project manager and the customer to ensure the contract requirements are understood. Where necessary this may also require liaison with external suppliers and other Balfour Beatty departments.
    Establish design content of work package and the design resource to achieve the required time scales, in line with project programme, via discussion with the lead design engineer and wider project team.
    Update and report on progress throughout contract life, giving estimates to complete. Update the contract project control tool (PARAM) and highlight potential resource problems to the engineering manager and design manager.
    Report variations in the contract scope of work to the engineer/engineering manager/project manager, indicate implications and only proceed with these variations following verbal / written approval from the engineering manager / project manager.
    Design Responsibilities:
    Identify all relevant standards ensuring compliance with relevant national / international standards, legislation, and contract specifications.
    Attend and contribute to design review / contract review meetings, ensuring that appropriate items are actioned in a timely manner.
    Liaise with engineer to establish contract drawing lists. Initiate the preparation of all required drawings.In conjunction with other Balfour Beatty departments, prepare installation and commissioning packages, in a timely manner as dictated by project programmes.
    Receive As Installed site drawings and documentation and liaise with other Balfour Beatty departments, subcontractors and suppliers, to ensure accurate final records are prepared and submitted to client in line with the requirements of the contract specification.
    Highlight any design issues to the engineer/engineering manager/project manager proposing any possible solution for review.
    Carry out draughting checks as deemed necessary and in line with the requirements of the business processes.

    Who we're looking for

    The Candidate

    E ducation:

    HNC in Electrical Engineering or higher.

    Experience :

    Liaising with customers and suppliers
    Design of substation electrical protection systems
    Familiarity with protection system components
    Familiarity with substation auxiliary system components (LVAC, batteries etc.)
    Autodesk products, Auto CAD, Elecdes (preferable)
    Microsoft Office Packages
