    Job summary

    Our Dermatological Surgery and Laser Unit provides a highly specialised surgical technique known as Mohs micrographic surgery to remove non melanoma skin cancer on the face and perform biopsies and minor surgery for a number of dermatological conditions as well as provide nurse led services for skin cancer. Our specialist team of nurses and doctors also work with lasers for conditions such as vascular lesions and scars. You will have the opportunity to assist in surgery in an outpatient setting as well as practice complex wound care and become an expert on skin cancer prevention.Applications are welcome from experienced Band 5 Nurses who are enthusiastic and have the ability to consistently deliver high quality patient care. You must be able to show your commitment and be willing to adapt to this challenging role and support change as we transform and expand our successful applicant must demonstrate commitment, leadership, organisational and interpersonal skills and be suited to the dynamic pace of these very busy services. It is essential to have a genuine interest in dermatology and skin cancer treatments and have post-grad can offer a dynamic working environment with an excellent record of commitment to continuous professional development.

    Main duties of the job

    You will be expected to deliver a high quality nursing service, providing specialist care and management to patients and their families throughout their diagnosis and treatment of skin cancer. The ability to prioritize your work and be flexible in your approach is essential to this role.

    Responsible for carrying out clinical practice within designated clinicalareas, ensuring that high quality, current evidence-based nursingassessment, care planning, implementation, interventions and evaluationsfor patients is provided from admission through to discharge.

    Will be responsible for the application of knowledge across the range ofwork procedures and practices, underpinned by theoretical knowledge andpractical experience.

    Job responsibilities

    Administration and discharge of patients undergoing dermatological surgery (biopsies/mohs micrographic surgery)

    Assisting in surgery (biopsies/mohs micrographic surgery)

    Assisting in laser therapy

    Undertake audits and improvement projects

    *Recognise and avoid situations that may be detrimental to the health andwellbeing of the individuals.

    *Recognise the significance of observations made, and use them todevelop and initiate nursing assessments and devise a plan of care.

    *Is wholly accountable for his / her practice in line with the NMC code ofprofessional conduct and takes every reasonable opportunity to sustainand improve his / her knowledge and professional competence

    *Will be familiar with the Health and Safety at Works Act, and be aware ofits implications and ensure that local unit and departmental policies arefollowed.

  • RN1/ RN2/ RN12 or RN Child Registered Nurse on the NMC register.
