The National Library of Scotland is seeking a dynamic and experienced temporary Head of Public Programmes to lead the development and delivery of a wide range of public engagement activities as part of our exciting new 'Reaching People' strategy.

You will be responsible for the strategic and operational direction of the Library's public engagement and audience development programming.

The role has responsibility for the management and delivery of a high-quality programme of exhibitions, events, and learning and outreach activities for diverse audiences at the Library's sites in Edinburgh and Glasgow, online, and at venues across Scotland as part of the Library's outreach programme.


This is a key position combining significant experience in public engagement delivery, audience development strategy, partnership building, and advocacy alongside management of a team of 7 people.

The post holder will ensure that the highest standards of delivery are combined with best practice in our engagement with Scotland's diverse communities.

This a fixed-term 9-month maternity cover role, from August April 2024. The role will predominantly be based on-site at the Library's George IV Bridge and Lawnmarket buildings in Edinburgh. Some home-working is permitted with prior agreement. The role will report to the Director of Engagement.
