    Job summary

    The role of the adult student nurse is flexible, and designed in way to support them, for the duration of their pre-registration nurse training program, to achieve all academic and practice related outcomes required to be a Paediatric Registered Nurse.

    Upon full completion of this 18 month programme all successful applicants will be required to meet with the programme directors for a final allocation discussion.

    Main duties of the job

    The intensive training nature of the post requires the post holder to work in a wide range of clinical services in hospital and community and make a supervised contribution to the delivery of care to patients whilst developing knowledge, skill and competence to gain entry to the NMC register as a Registered Nurse.

    A range of academic assessments will be undertaken to meet the academic requirements of a graduate pre-registration nursing programme.

    You will be managed within corporate nursing services. Your direct line manager will be a Practice Placement Facilitator who works within the Practice Education Team.

    Job responsibilities

    The post holder is expected to work in a collaborative and co-operative manner with all members of the Trust Practice Education Team, completing assigned duties including direct patient care under supervision of practice supervisors, whilst maintaining the safety, welfare and dignity of patients at all times.

    The post holder is expected to complete all aspects of clinical and theoretical work required to achieve the academic and clinical competencies required to register with the NMC as a nurse.

    The post holder will carry out assigned tasks involving direct care supervised by a Practice Assessor across a range of clinical services and sites within the Trust.

    This post will lead to professional registration with the NMC.

    Knowledge and skill will be acquired through the planned learning and development specifically designed for this post.

    At the outset of the training it is essential that the potholder has the following minimum entry requirements:

  • 5 GCSEs at grade C or above INCLUDING English Language and Mathematics or equivalent functional Maths and English at level 2.
  • Foundation Degree in health care related subject.
  • Substantial experience delivering patient care with evidence of a portfolio of skills acquired during this time, Nursing Associate qualification.
  • In addition the post holder must have the capacity to commit to study at undergraduate degree level and be able to maintain a portfolio of their clinical and theoretical development in line with NMC requirements and the set expectations of the provider university and Trust Practice Education Team.

    You will be:

  • Responsible for ensuring own mandatory training is up to date
  • Responsible for ensuring completion of own developmental practice assessment documents ensuring these are completed for each practice placement in accordance with university and clinical development requirements
  • Adhering to university set annual leave dates
  • Attendance to all university mandatory assessment/training/theory days
