CARE ASSISTANT JOB DESCRIPTION_


JOB TITLE:
Care Assistant


MAIN PURPOSE:
To provide residents with the highest standard of person
- centred quality care and support at all times, in accordance with each resident's individual care plan. To act in accordance with the policies and procedures of the home.


RESPONSIBLE TO:
Registered Manager / Unit Manager


MAIN DUTIES:


  • To build up good relationships with, and knowledge of, residents in order to provide them with daily care and help them maintain and improve, where possible, their independence, individuality and mobility.
  • To work at all times in ways which demonstrate an active understanding of the principles of the job as described above, and with appropriate guidance from senior staff.
  • To ensure, at all times, that information about individuals is treated with respect and confidentiality, when receiving, sharing, storing or retrieving information.
  • To enhance and promote our residents' quality of life
  • To communicate with relatives, partners, friends or carers involved with the individual, as well as with other staff and caring agencies with regard to the individual's health, social care and wellbeing.
  • To serve meals and beverages, encouraging and assisting in the feeding of residents requiring additional attention at mealtimes as required.
  • To attend to residents with reduced continence control, toileting, cleaning and changing continence pads and removing wet or soiled clothing to ensure the resident remains comfortable and the risk of skin deterioration is reduced.
  • To carry out care activities in accordance with the individual care plan for less active and/or poorly residents, particularly turning and moving to reduce the development of pressure sores.
Care Assistant Job Description

  • To assist residents with restricted mobility to move to dining areas at mealtimes and other communal areas for social activities and stimulation or to the privacy of their bedrooms at their request.
  • To ensure hydration and nutrition needs are met for all residents.
  • To ensure bedroom areas are kept tidy, pleasant and comfortable by making beds, regularly changing bed linen and emptying commodes.
  • To thoroughly and regularly clean equipment involved in the personal care of residents, including commodes and wheelchairs.
  • To practice safe systems of work across the range of tasks and in particular, moving and handling of loads, by assessing risk and having due regard for personal safety and the safety of residents, visitors and other staff.
  • To assist senior staff in the ongoing assessment of residents, reporting any changes to the Senior in charge.
  • To escort residents travelling to and from the Home e.g. on social outings, hospital visits etc.
  • To maintain accurate and legible daily records of care provided, including daily notes, food and hydration and position changes charts.
  • To contribute fully to team working, responding positively to colleagues, and executing all reasonable work instructions promptly whilst promoting good antidiscriminatory practices.
  • To take part in regular supervisions and appraisals to meet agreed learning and development needs associated with the job.
  • To attend and actively contribute to team meetings.
  • To assist in the orientation of new care assistants.
  • To adopt a neat, clean, and tidy appearance which is respectful and appropriate to our client group and is in line with Infection Control Guidelines.
  • To be helpful and courteous to residents and visitors at all times
  • To report all comments, compliments and complaints immediately to the person in charge.
  • To be familiar with, and support, the implementation of the home's policies and procedures.
  • To attend all required training sessions.
  • To carry out additional reasonable duties, from time to time, as directed by the management team.
  • To carry out duties in such a way as to ensure the economical and safe use of resources and equipment.
  • To answer the door and telephone appropriately, respond accordingly, and pass on messages promptly.
  • To ensure all property belonging to the home and/or residents is treated with respect.
  • To report any defects, damage, theft, breakages or hazards.
Care Assistant Job Description

  • To understand personal responsibilities with regard to Health & Safety at
Work legislation, especially in relation to moving and handling of residents, and fire safety and evacuation.

Person Specification:

To be qualified or working towards NVQ II, or equivalent
