The Opportunity
What happens to people's use of public transport if we make cycling more attractive? How close are we to achieving Net Zero by 2040? Who is hardest hit if we increase parking charges?

These are the conversations our City Modelling Lab explores day to day.

We bring together experts in transport, energy, climate change and economics alongside data scientists, software engineers and designers to solve this complex questions.

Fundamentally, we build large scale simulations of people's transportation choices, look at how these could change in the future, and what happens to them when we change policies, infrastructure, and behaviour.

At the heart of the CML approach is close collaboration with research institutions and open-source projects, bringing forward the best research in this area in such a way that it can benefit as many people as possible.

We are looking at how our modelling can impact areas outside of transport and really deliver for a range of different outcomes.

Is this role right for you?


Our team is growing as we take on a wider range of projects and continue to develop our core offering.

We use a range of different technologies and approaches to develop our simulations and are keen to hear from people who are interested in using their transport modelling or digital skills to help solve these types of problems.

Here are some of the key skills and types of experience we are looking for;

  • Professional experience in an analytical, consulting, or software development environment
  • Experience working with data to produce insights, generate visualisations, and make recommendations
  • Experience working with geospatial data, such OpenStreetMap, and Geospatial Information Systems, such as QGIS
  • Coding skills; preferably Python, but also Java, Rust, or R. The ability to pick up new languages will also be a benefit
  • Software development awareness, such as of Git, command line interfaces and environment control
  • Experience with cloud computing (AWS or similar)
  • Transport planning and transport modelling
