Reporting to the Capex Lead, this key and exciting role of Project Manager - Initiation will be accountable for the consistent and robust development of pre-idea and evaluate stage projects through the project management stage gates ready for detailed design. You will have experience across engineering and finance having a keen eye for detail and an ability to understand the technical and commercial views of project success. Working as part of a Global Business Engineering Team, the PM will manage the stakeholders from the operational sites, central business teams and subject matter experts to integrate project definition in the early stages. Knowledge and experience of Front End Loading projects to achieve portfolio success is the main aim of this role, so bringing your wealth of experience from Project Execution is key.

The role is a core function of PGMS Engineering team and as such will be responsible for taking projects though the stage gate process and support building capability in the site teams authoring, financial evaluation, and strategy alignment. The role with collaborate deeply with the site teams, Group and BU Engineering teams, and other key functions across the business such as business development & EHS ensuring a holistic and joined up approach to investment decisions across the portfolio.

Responsibilities -

• Put in place and manage systems and processes to efficiently feed the CAPEX programme with projects that are robustly prepared and ready for challenge at future assurance reviews.
• May Supervise a small team of Discipline Engineers that support the early phases of project deliverables and facilitate integrated design reviews.
• Align and support pre- idea/feasibility projects to ensure sufficient scope is explored and deliverables provide the insights and information PGMS Leadership Team requires to move with confidence into full project execution.
• Build and maintain insightful & impactful performance management reports and business case presentations to key stakeholders.
• Act as a conduit to ensure effective engagement between site-based engineering functions and Group Engineering-based technical authorities with specialist knowledge of technical solutions that should be considered in early project stages.
• Support growth in capabilities of site-based team members focused on capex programmes & sponsor key talent to support the growth of capability in the capex space.
• Coordinate projects in early stages to meet minimum requirements in terms of business case preparation, investment estimates, technical assumptions, resourcing plan and business alignment.
• Guides Technical Teams to prepare the alternatives and concepts to evaluate.
• Leads and completes early phases and hand-over to Later Project Manager for Detailed design and Construction.
• Continue supporting the later PM's and Supply Chain during the Project Lifecycle to ensure Business Goals are achieved. This may include acting as consultant and / or Project Manager to ensure the back end project delivers the requirements as requested in the early stages of the project.
• Build business case development principles and capabilities alongside New Process/Product Introduction teams, site capex leads, and project engineers.
• Work across functions such as Manufacturing Technology, R&D & EHS to seek and align input to early-stage concepts and ideas.
