    Description

    The role

    To monitor and direct the stockroom and purchasing activities to ensure that parts and supplies are available when needed. Items will include drill bits, sanding belts, lubricants, transformers, all parts of a CNC and textile machine.

    The MRO buyer will maintain inventory, keep the storeroom organised, oversee usage, pick up and deliver, complete compliance on transactional and physical replenishment and receiving process.

    Responsibilities

    • To coordinate & support local purchasing and administrating requirements.
    • Working closely with colleagues on site in Kenya as well as in UK, USA and other countries as appropriate.
    • Purchasing MRO/Expensed items to support Engineering and NPI activities.
    • Administration and processing of electronic and manual requisitions.
    • Kanban and/or VMI systems management to support production requirements
    • Procurement of other machines, systems and commodities.

    Experience needed

    • Some purchasing experience, ideally in a manufacturing environment specifically responsible for machinery / equipment / spares and maintenance.
    • Familiar with JIT / Kanban or VMI systems
    • Familiarity with INCO terms.
    • Methodical and the ability to work unsupervised & under pressure (when necessary)
    • Computer literate
    • Excellent communication skills

    Desirable

    • Prior purchasing experience, ideally in a manufacturing environment (packaging, chemicals, machinery, machine tools & equipment, fasteners etc)
    • Previous experience working with an MRP / ERP system
    • Some technical ability (to interpret a 2D drawing or specification)
    • Familiar with global shipping/transit times

    Additional Information

    • May be suitable for a machine shop store person currently ordering on an ad hoc basis that we will develop skills to include direct materials.
    • The MRO buyer will be required to travel and can be expected to be in the Kenya/ASIA up to 3 times per year.
