    About the Role Colne Valley Primary Care Network Ltd has a fantastic opportunity for a GP assistant (GPA) to join our team on a full-time basis for hours per week on 5 days. The GPA position is a support role, covering administrative tasks and, if appropriate, some basic clinical duties, to assist the GPs, enabling them to make the best use of consultation time. The post-holder will form part of our multi-disciplinary, primary-care team and contribute to the smooth running of the surgery. The main duties of this role will include:
  • Managing incoming and outgoing clinical correspondence;
  • Extracting information from clinical documents that require coding;
  • Arranging appointments, referrals, tests and follow-up appointments;
  • Completing basic (non-opinion) forms, and core elements of some forms, for the GP to approve and sign. These might include insurance, DVLA and benefits agency forms, for example;
  • Explaining treatment procedures to patients and providing support for any questions they may have;
  • Supporting patient experience by reiterating information from the GP;
  • Assisting with practice tasks;
  • Helping the GP liaise with outside agencies getting an on call doctor on the phone to ask advice or arrange admission;
  • Completing simple clinical observations/investigations as directed locally, such as dipstick urine, taking blood pressure, ECG, phlebotomy.

  • Ability to multi-task and to work accurately under pressure;
  • Ability to work in a team as well as being comfortable working independently.
