    Primary SEMH Teacher - Main Scale + SEN (London fringe) - The Link


    My client is a large and highly successful special school educating some c300 students aged 2-19, who, due to their complex needs, require significant specialist support to succeed academically and achieve their full potential.

    The school's mission statement is to be the Centre of Excellence for students with special educational needs. They are already a good school and now they wish to be the best

    Are you an experienced early years or primary Teacher who is used to working in a fast-paced environment?

    Teaching includes planning, preparation, delivery, assessment, evaluation and reporting responsibilities.

    The Link is a child and young person-centred provision which is outcomefocused to ensure the continued education of students in a supportive and nurturing environment.

    It caters for students who, because of exclusion or other reasons, would not receive a suitable full-time education in a mainstream setting.


    Teachers make the education of their students their first concern and are accountable for achieving the highest possible standards in work and conduct.


    Teachers at my clients' school provide outstanding quality education and therapeutic learning support to students with a wide range of needs, and through that, ensure that students are well equipped to lead healthy, happy and fulfilling lives.


    They lead staff in line with school's vision and mission statement and always promote school's core values and Golden Rules.

    Qualified Teacher Status (UK)


    • Evidence of effective teaching over a wide range of need
    • Experience of working with early years and/or primary aged children
    • Evidence of appropriate in-service activity and professional development
    • An excellent understanding of how children learn.
    • A sound curriculum knowledge and understanding of key strategies for effective teaching and learning.
    • A commitment to inclusion.
    • You will be line managed and performance managed by the relevant Assistant Headteacher - Link, Academic in respect of all professional duties.


    You may be required, at the direction of the Headteacher, to contribute to the teaching of subjects which are the responsibility of departments other than that to which you have been assigned.


    The Assistant Headteacher will monitor your professional duties in respect of such teaching and provide feedback to you and your assigned line manager.

    Be aware of students' capabilities and their prior knowledge, and plan teaching to build on these

    • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of how students learn and how this impacts on teaching
    • Have a secure knowledge of the relevant subject(s) and curriculum areas, foster and maintain students' interest in the subject, and address misunderstandings Demonstrate a critical understanding of developments in the subject and curriculum areas, and promote the value of scholarship
    • Demonstrate an understanding of and take responsibility for promoting high standards of literacy, articulacy and the correct use of standard English, whatever the teacher's specialist subject
    • If teaching early reading, demonstrate a clear understanding of systematic synthetic phonics
    • If teaching early mathematics, demonstrate a clear understanding of appropriate teaching strategies.
    Promote a love of learning and children's intellectual curiosity

    • Set homework and plan other outofclass activities to consolidate and extend the knowledge and understanding students have acquired
    • Reflect systematically on the effectiveness of lessons and approaches to teaching
    • Adapt teaching to respond to the strengths and needs of all students
    • Demonstrate an awareness of the physical, social and intellectual development of children, and know how to adapt teaching to support students' education at different stages of development
    • Have a clear understanding of the needs of all students, including those with special educational needs; those with English as an additional language; those with disabilities; and be able to use and evaluate distinctive teaching approaches to engage and support them.


    Use relevant data to monitor progress, set targets, and plan subsequent lessons Give students regular feedback, both orally and through accurate marking, and encourage students to respond to the feedback.

    Have clear routines and promote the Golden Rules for behaviour in classrooms, and take responsibility for promoting good and courteous behaviour both in classrooms and around the school, in accordance with the school's behaviour policy
