The post holder has professional responsibility and accountability to manage, develop and deliver a specialist Arthroplasty out patient review service across Lothian.
Has overall responsibility for clinical governance issues relating to the Arthroplasty Practitioner service.The individual provides direct clinical care encompassing assessment, investigation, diagnosis and management of Arthroplasty patients in out-patient clinics and via the Arthroplasty advice line.
The Arthroplasty practitioner's main roles are:
- To provide long term review of patients with Arthroplasty (joint replacement) in order to:
- Maximise patient potential following Arthroplasty surgery primary and revision.
- Facilitate early detection of Arthroplasty complications, problems and failure allowing optimal planning of further surgery thus improving outcomes
- Provide Outreach service to ensure equity to Arthroplasty patients across Lothian
- Release orthopaedic consultants from routine Arthroplasty review thus reducing new out patient waiting times
- Act as a highly specialist and expert clinical resource for multi disciplinary team
- Provide long term follow up based on clinical evidence in accordance with local guidelines with reference to British Orthopaedic Association Guidelines for Total Hip and Knee Replacement.
Clinically assess newly referred patients for their suitability for hip or knee joint replacement surgery or for conservative management of their arthritic joints.
