Human Factors Integration Expert (HFI Expert)

Overview of Role


Thorn SDS require an HFI Expert to work on behalf of our Central Government client, based in Abbey Wood, Bristol.


You will complement the existing small team of HFI/UCD experts by taking on a specific allocation of projects for which you will undertake delivery activities and generate the required outputs.


Working alongside other engineering disciplines, you will engage with a Model Based System Engineering (MBSE) approach that links strongly with architecture and requirements to shape, inform, direct, and assure delivery.

This will ensure a consistent approach and evidence trail that tracks from capability need and user requirements, through system requirements, design, and implementation, to system test and user acceptance.


Responsibilities


The role is responsible for a range of outputs dependent upon the assigned projects and tailored to the available delivery bandwidth.

The example scope of possible activities and resultant outputs is illustrated below.

  • Generate artefacts:
  • Early Human Factors Analysis (EHFA)
  • Human Factors Integration Plan
  • Target Audience Description
  • Provide direction and input to supplier HFI/UCD activities and assure supplier outputs:
  • Develop Capability Specifications
  • Develop competition documentation and assess supplier tenders
  • Evaluate COTS/MOTS solutions and support prototype solution development
  • Define and coordinate user based HFI/UCD and acceptance activities.
  • Manage user input in the UCD development lifecycle and engage with Army HQ to ensure the supply of end users in accordance with processes, procedures, and timelines
  • Provide HFI/UCD input to project management artefacts:
  • project schedules, work breakdown structure
  • Risk, Assumptions, Issues, Dependency & Opportunities (RAIDO)
  • Progress reporting.
  • Contribute to the development and execution of the HFI governance approach, covering:
  • HFI design principles, design system, process, and product descriptor templates
  • HFI strategies for evaluation and management (e.g., alarms/alerts)
  • Organise, record, chair or attend HFI/UCD Working Groups and Steering Groups

Skills & Requirements

  • Over 5 years of HFI/UCD related work experience
  • Experience of working with standards such as JSP912, Def Stan and ISO 924
  • Ability to work closely with a wide range of stakeholders
  • An academic qualification in human factors and/or ergonomics
  • Membership of appropriate professional institution, such as the Chartered Institute of Ergonomics and Human Factors
All applicants must hold the Right to Work in the UK and already possess
Security Clearance.


Job Types:
Full-time, Fixed term contract

Contract length: 9 months


Salary:
£50,000.00-£60,000.00 per year
