    Default job background
    Description

Vacancies have arisen within Leonardo UK for Operational Analysts on the Global Combat Air System Programme (GCAP). Announced by the Prime Minister in December 2022, GCAP will deliver Tempest, the next generation fighter aircraft that will replace the Royal Air Force Typhoon fleet in the 2035 timescales.

Leonardo UK is pushing the technical boundaries associated with advanced tactical sensing, data fusion, communications, machine learning and defensive aids systems, which collectively will enable Tempest to survive and operate in highly contested threat environments.

Leonardo is developing these technologies for demonstration in synthetic environments and on a Flight Test Aircraft. Furthermore, we are working closely with the Ministry of Defence and air platform engineering teams to integrate these capabilities within the Tempest combat aircraft. This exciting role spans the FCAS Portfolio, covering both advanced technology demonstrations and operational product development. This opportunity will see the successful candidate managing multi-discipline teams to develop and integrate complex mission systems, and deliver test and evaluation of these capabilities within a synthetic environment and on airborne trials. GCAP is an international endeavour and the successful candidate will have the opportunity to travel overseas to work with colleagues in Italy and Japan. This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to play a fundamental role in a defence programme of critical national importance, and to shape the future of Combat Air capability in the UK.

While the role is advertised as Capability Green based, we are willing to consider applicants to be based at Capability Green, Bristol and Lincoln.

    What you will do:

Work closely with System and domain SMEs to define and implement warfighting scenarios and/or models to investigate key technologies and innovative thinking for inclusion in the overall system.
    - Support war gaming, simulation and constructive analysis to help develop requirements and architectures for the next generation of military capability.
    - Develop and use tools, processes and facilities such as:
    - Modelling Synthetic environments

    COTS simulation and analysis tools

    Internally developed and bespoke capabilities

Support the development and delivery of engineering specifications, reports and presentations for delivery to customers and industry partners.
    - Travel within the UK and overseas to meet with SMEs and stakeholders
    - We are a growing section with opportunities to develop and deliver in many projects with a focus on GCAP, one of the most exciting and complex projects the UK has ever undertaken.

    What we are looking for

Degree qualified in a relevant Science / Technology / Engineering / Maths discipline or similar experience
    - Good problem solving ability
    - Ability to visualise and analyse complex systems.
    - Good written and verbal communication skills
    - Self-starter, with the drive and motivation to succeed
    - Enthusiasm to take on new challenges
    - An interest in technology, military aviation and modelling.
    - Ability and desire to gain SC clearance as a minimum.

It would be nice if you had experience from some of the following:

Domain knowledge relating to the military operating environment with an emphasis on threats and challenges faced by aircrews.
    - A good understanding of simulation environments (e.g. Simulink) and / or programming experience (e.g. C, C++, Python, FORTRAN or other languages)
    - Experience of Agile working.
    - Some understanding of sensors such as but not limited to RADAR, EO/IR, ESM, EA.
    - Experience of operating in or supporting military environments and or trials
    - Practical knowledge of basic systems engineering principles and processes
