    Scottish Borders Council:
    Heritage & Design Officer
Exciting Opportunity to Join a Brilliant Heritage Team with a Diverse Workload

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic person for the post of Heritage & Design Officer within the Heritage and Design Team.

You will provide specialist technical built heritage and design advice in the delivery of the Council's statutory responsibilities in relation to the built environment throughout the Scottish Borders.

The Scottish Borders has a rich and varied built environment, ranging from large houses and estates to burgh towns and a unique range of vernacular buildings.

The history of the area within Scotland, as well as being a much-visited tourist destination adds to this richness.

The diversity of the area ranging from lowland hills and towns, wild remote places, and to the Berwickshire coastline, makes this a special area to work in and also brings a complex range of challenges, requiring creative and innovative solutions for the built and natural environment and regeneration.

You will be at the heart of a team of committed, brilliant and valued environmental specialists, covering landscape, trees, ecology, and archaeology, working together to advise on the built and natural environment and Placemaking within the Planning, Housing and Buildings Standards Service.

You will provide advice and guidance on a wide range of areas including climate adaptation and sustainable change to historic buildings and places, and also help to deliver the Council's programme of Conservation Area Appraisals and Management Plans.

This is an interesting, busy, and diverse portfolio of work which requires a dynamic, innovative, and creative individual. You will be an experienced self-starter and passionate about the built heritage in Scotland.

As well as the Council's statutory responsibilities, the portfolio covers Buildings at Risk, Corporate Projects, the promotion of SBC's Doors Open Days and the SBC Design Awards, also other projects and funding initiatives within the Borders and the South of Scotland.

It is the Council's aspiration to make the Scottish Borders a more sustainable and better place to live, work in, and to visit, and also to improve the wellbeing of citizens.

If this aligns with you, we would love to hear from you.
The nature of the post lends itself to flexible working arrangements. Job share may be considered.
