East Region is looking for two Survey GIS Technicians to join the Planning and Environment team.
As a Survey GIS Technician, you will carry out quality assurance checks on survey contractors, lead on plant health issues in your area and work alongside the regional GIS technician to ensure that our sub-compartment database is kept up to date.
As part of the East region planning team, your primary role will be to supervise and quality assure production survey contracts and contractors, provide key information to the programme manager, which will aid in the creation of harvesting programmes and improve the accuracy of the sub-compartment database.
Working alongside the regional GIS technician, you will, amongst other tasks, aid in the upkeep and improvement of the sub-compartment database, produce maps for work plans, provide GIS support to other team members.
You will also lead on plant health issues, carrying out tree health surveys and update other staff members on current issues and threats.
Provide plot and coupe information for contract surveys to take place using GIS systems including Survey Tools.Monitor performance of forest survey fieldworkers (FLS staff and contractors) through desk and field audit of survey work & provide feedback about any issues arising.
Adding completed survey data/ maps to work plans.Maintain regular contact with and provide updates on your work areas to Planning Forester and other relevant team members on a regular basis.
Carry out mensuration surveys for clearfell and thinning as required, including the marking of sample thinning areas.Liaise with and attend meetings with FLS GIS technicians and support teams.
Continue the provision of support to colleagues in the use of GIS-Contract Mapper, ARCGIS, Forester Web.
Provide data for Forester Web and work plan updates & update core data sets as necessary e.g., SubCompartmentDataBase (SCDB), tree health survey results.
Carry out tree health surveys and undertake tasks in relation to tree health champions and related issues.Undertake other surveys as instructed including possibly establishment surveys, recording areas of interest found whilst surveying such as conservation or heritage features.
