    Would you like to make a difference to the lives of people with learning disabilities? Can you spare a little time just once every two months?

    We support a delightful man in his 60s who would just love for someone to visit him on a regular basis.

    His interests include:

  • Anything involving Trucks and Lorries
  • Going out in the community for tea and cake
  • Visiting local places like the nearest Harbour and Marwell Zoo
  • Listening to the radio and watching TV, especially Dr Who
  • He also loves visitors
  • This gentleman is very friendly, but he has limited verbal communication, so strong communication skills and patience will be essential in this role. Visits would initially be in the home, but once you have gotten to know each other you may feel happy to go out for trips.

    He also loves the company of dogs, so if you happened to have one, that would certainly be a bonus

    You will be introduced to each other by a member of Mencap volunteering team and staff who know him well. The Mencap Visiting Service was founded in . It meant that the parents of a person with a learning disability could know that someone would look in on them when they were no longer around. In this volunteer role, you will not only be providing a valuable social visit to this man, but also honouring the wishes of his parents. When & where do I need to be available? Visits will be every 2 months and can be during the week or weekends. Visits will last around hours or longer depending on what you plan to do. You would need to be:
  • A person with strong communication skills
  • Kind
  • Patient
  • Engaging
  • Up for a challenge
  • Passionate about supporting people with a disability
