We are looking for an innovative, passionate and driven individual to manage complex and challenging employee relations cases within West Midlands Police.


The Roles


The HR Advisor is a pivotal role within the HR Advice Team and is responsible for the end-to-end management of multiple complex employee relations cases and initiatives, ensuring that 'This Work Matters'.

Ideally you will be an experienced and self-motivated HR generalist who can work both on your own with mínimal supervision but also enjoy being part of and contributing to a high performing team.


HR Advisor - GMT
This is a specialist role working within the newly formed Grievance Management Team. You will be responsible for undertaking complex grievance investigations, facilitating hearings and appeals where required.

You will ensure that processes are dealt with in a timely manner, working towards viable outcomes where all parties feel valued and heard.

You will work closely with departmental management teams to identify possibilities to resolve matters informally where appropriate.

You will work with key stakeholders across the Force including management, trade unions, the police federation and the Diversity and Inclusion team, reporting on trends, areas for organisational concern, best practice and learning.


HR Advisor - General

This is a diverse role providing expert generalist HR advice to managers across the Force on all employee relations matters including attendance, capability, change management, grievance and disciplinary.

You will also liaise with our Trade Unions, Police Federation and Staff Associations, and be critical to ensuring managers work within defined policy and procedures.

Policy implementation and coaching line managers is a key aspect of the role, helping us to build and embed a culture that is aligned with our vision and values.

This role reports to the Service Lead - HR Advice Team.

  • We are looking for a positive, passionate individual with a strong background in human resources, and employee relations gained within a complex, unionised environment alongside in depth knowledge of employment law and understands their contribution to business success.
  • Experience of managing a high volume of complex employee relations cases, the ability to work under pressure and to deadlines is essential and membership of the CIPD or relevant professional qualification is sought or significant relevant experience.
  • You must have previous experience of working with a range of internal and external stakeholders, including senior management and Trade Union bodies with the ability to negotiate, influence and persuade.
  • Being structured, organised and able to work independently is essential.
  • You will be passionate about your work and will have strong listening, verbal, written and presentation skills.
  • Have experience of working within Human Resources or Employee Relations in a large, complex and unionised organisation
  • Relevant professional qualification in relation to Human Resources, Employee Relations or Employment Law along with CIPD membership
  • Ability to support the development and implementation or ER policies, processes and practices, including experience of change management
  • Be innovative, passionate, focused and flexible within the working environment
  • Be an excellent communicator with exceptional interpersonal, negotiating and influencing skills.

Hours
The working hours will be Monday - Friday 08:00 - 16:00


Location
This role is based in Lloyd House in Birmingham. However, the nature of this role will require some travel to West Midlands Police offices across West Midlands region.


Vetting


Successful applicants will be required to pass Recruitment Vetting and Counter Terrorism Clearance scrutiny prior to commencing their role, this will include a full background & financial disclosure as part of the vetting process.


Medical


Appointment to this role will be dependent upon successfully medical checks, which may include a drugs test and if required a fitness test.
