The Role


The MPL claims team sits within the Casualty Claims Division (alongside General Liability) as part of the UK Claims function.


Responsibilities will include:


  • Develop a thorough understanding of the claims within the Management & Professional Lines portfolio.
  • Proactively adjust claims within your claims authority and in accordance with the Canopius Claims Vision and claims manual; ensuring and delivering the very highest service to all our customers by effectively driving claims through to resolution.
  • Ensure that sufficient financial provisions, in accordance with the Canopius reserving philosophy, are held for all claims within your portfolio.
  • Nurture and maintain collaborative working relationships with internal and external stakeholders; in particular with the underwriters and actuaries.
  • Ensure delegated claims are managed in accordance with Canopius' claims values; ensuring effective oversight of TPAs/Service Providers via regular reporting on key performance indicators, peer reviews, file reviews and generally sharing of best practice.
  • Instruct and proactively work with panel lawyers, adjusters, and experts to ensure the best outcomes whilst controlling costs and reducing claims leakage.

Skills and experience:

  • An experienced claims handler and acknowledged technical expert with extensive working knowledge of handling complex claims in the Commercial D&O and Professional Indemnity, Financial Institutions classes in the London market (or equivalent setting).
  • Ability to prioritise and proactively meet deadlines.
  • A positive, enthusiastic and confident disposition.
  • A passion for learning and a keen interest in current events.
  • A strategic thinker with strong communication skills; able to articulate their point of view in a clear and considered manner.
  • A collaborative and thoughtful approach to stakeholder management.
  • A professional approach to interact appropriately with management.
  • Ability t work both independently and as a team player.
  • Ability t manage complex issues and problems and escalates appropriately.
  • Willingness t take responsibility and accountability.
  • Acting with honesty, integrity and fairness at all times.
