The core function of the PGME Department is to ensure medical education and training across the Trust meets national, local and professional quality standards.

Delivering Postgraduate Medical Education is embedded in the Trust's strategic goals.

It is recognised that high quality medical education has a significant downstream effect and not only raises the quality of service provision but also the quality of doctors' attracted to work at the Trust and the quality of patient experience.

Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust (SRFT) has a strong track record for educating doctors in training.

Every year the trust educates all levels of doctors in Foundation, GP, IMT Specialty and academic, leadership and research programmes, as well as ensuring the supervision and development of Clinical Fellows and Physician Associates.

The Trust aims to deliver high quality training to doctors at all levels.


Led by the Director of Medical Education and the Postgraduate Medical Education Manager, the Postgraduate Medical Education team work actively with all junior doctors and Physician associates to understand their education needs and to ensure they receive the appropriate level of support and training.

Moreover those delivering education across the Trust are also supported and developed by the team.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities:

The post holder will be responsible for the day to day operational management of the Postgraduate Medical Education Department providing leadership and direct line management to 5 administrative staff and specialist knowledge and support to the wider PGME Clinical Education Leadership team.

The post holder will ensure that all administrative & management functions and processes are delivered to a high quality and will participate in service improvement and support major change initiatives that modernise systems, environments, and service delivery within the care organisation and across the NCA.

The workload is varied and includes managerial, financial, budgetary, performance management and project management duties as well as providing specialist advice to both internal and external stakeholders.

There is a quality assurance element to the role and the post holder will critically analyse outcome data in relation to national quality standards for medical education and training making recommendations and submitting timely and accurate reports for the senior leadership group.

The post holder will be required to have specialist knowledge of national, regional and local medical education functions and structures and an operational knowledge of the Trust's wider organisation to ensure that medical education aligns with the overall NCA strategic goals.

This role will deputise for the Head of Service SCO Postgraduate Medical Education.
