    An exciting opportunity has arisen on Lipton Ward, which is our 10 bedded Hyper Acute Rehabilitation Ward, which forms part of the Cheshire and Merseyside Rehabilitation Network beds.

    The rehabilitation of patients who have had life changing injuries or neurological events is extremely rewarding, as it involves helping a patient to regain function, confidence, speech, self-respect and much more.

    We are looking to recruit enthusiastic and professional health care assistants, who are committed to supporting and working alongside a team, providing high quality care for our complex patients.

    5 hours over 7 days, Monday-Sunday

    Under the supervision and direction of a registered nurse assisting the Ward / Department team in providing the highest possible standard of basic care for patients and their families/carer.

    Care Duties

    Assist patients in meeting their hygiene needs and carry out all aspects of personal care and grooming (to include emptying catheter bags).

    Reports patients dietary intake as indicated in the patients plan of care

    Carry out any movement and handling within the safe practice guidelines from mandatory training and in relation to the patients manual handling risk assessment and care plan.

    Enable patients to maintain/improve their mobility by use of exercise and mobility appliances as directed by individual care plans.

    Registered nurse in conjunction with the patients plan of care.
    Obtaining specimens from patients for ward or laboratory testing.
    Escorting patients to clinical departments within the hospital
    General observations of patients, reporting anything untoward to Registered Nursing Staff.
    Recognise and escalate any changes in patients condition to Registered Nursing Staff.
    Clear and clean vacated bed spaces and prepare ready for use according to the ward/unit protocol.
    Prepare used linen bags for collection by Porters and ensure adequate supply of linen bags/skips ready for use.
    Assist in stocking up supplies in treatment rooms
    Collection of Blood products as required from laboratory
    Safe disposal of clinical waste and sharps as per Trust policy
    Supports members of the nursing team in the management of abusive and aggressive behaviour with supervision
    Answer the telephone and pass on messages as required.
    Basic computer skills
    Retrieving charts and other care documentation from other areas or central store in the absence of the ward clerk
    Act as messenger in the absence of other more appropriate person e.g. to other wards, laboratory, Medical Engineering etc.
    The post holder shall follow all the policies and procedures of the organisation.
    Demonstrates a willingness & capability to undertake a level 2 care apprenticeship

    Ability to develop effective interpersonal relationships with colleagues in the Healthcare setting
    Basic Computer Skills.

    This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
