At Prestwick Service Center we are specialists in the maintenance, repair and overhaul of aircraft engine nacelles systems and engine components.

We currently have a number opportunities for individuals to gain a recognised trade within the aircraft industry by completing a 4-year Modern Apprenticeship.


Our apprenticeship programme is tailored to develop outstanding apprentices who will obtain the relevant Aeronautical Engineering qualifications at Ayrshire College whilst working onsite, fully supported to embark on their career journey to become a fully qualified Mechanic Inspector in the industry.

  • Nat 5 in Mathematics
  • Nat 5 in Physics
  • Nat 5 in English
  • Plus beneficial if you have a practical Nat 4/5 qualification such as metalwork, woodwork, design & manufacture etc

Option 2

  • Nat 5 in Mathematics
  • Nat 5 in Physics
  • Nat 5 in English
  • Plus a recently completed NC, Foundation Apprenticeship or PEO in Aeronautical Engineering
This is a true 'earn while you learn' opportunity whilst you are working onsite at Prestwick Service Centre.

You will gain hands-on experience working directly with Mechanic Inspectors to learn your trade, which involves working with various tools and materials, using technical manuals and blueprints to inspect and repair aircraft components.


During this apprenticeship, you will spend year 1 working towards achieving an SVQ Level 2, PEO and an NC in Aeronautical Engineering (unless you already have these) whilst gaining valuable shopfloor experience.


In years 2 to 4, you will continue to build on your technical experience whilst gaining an SVQ Level 3 in Aeronautical Engineering.

There is also an opportunity to attend college on a day release basis to gain an HNC in Aeronautical Engineering.


You will have good communication skills, both written and verbal, be able to demonstrate basic mechanical skills and have a demonstrable interest in engineering and mechanics.
