Job description

This post will be offered on an a fixed-term contract for 24 months

This is a full-time post - 100% full time equivalent

Key responsibilities

Independent management and execution of own project

Presentation of project updates and relevant literature at lab meetings and journal clubs

Assisting in writing and editing scientific manuscripts (papers, reviews, grants)

Assisting in training of PhD, Master's and Bachelor's students

Assisting in laboratory management

Skills, knowledge, and experience

PhD in biological or biomedical science

Experience with mouse work

Experience with molecular biology and tissue culture

Knowledge of gene regulation and basic immunology

Essential criteria

  • PhD in biological or biomedical science.
  • Strong publication record, as demonstrated by first author publication(s) in peer reviewed journals (preprints will also be considered).
  • Experience and comfort in working with mice.
  • Experience in molecular biology (eg. cloning, RNA extraction, RTqPCR) and tissue culture (generation of cell lines and viral infections).
  • Some knowledge of methods in biochemistry (eg. protein analyses), immunology (flow cytometry) and transcriptomics.
  • Ability to do the following independently: design and conduct experiments, analyze data, and present results professionally in written and oral form.
  • Scientific rigor and integrity.
  • Strong communication skills both in writing and for presentation (for eg. at meetings and conferences.
  • A high level of selfmotivation and ability to work flexible hours and meet deadlines.
  • Sound computerhandling skills especially for writing and making figures and tables.
  • Work cooperatively and collaboratively with colleagues in the lab and, if required, other labs on campus.
  • Cosupervise students in the lab with support from the PI.
  • Actively participating in general laboratory organization and maintenance as well as scientific and social activities.
Desirable criteria

  • Knowledge of transcriptional regulation, B cell biology and antibody diversification literature.
  • Preparation of libraries for nextgeneration sequencing.
  • Bioinformatics skills for analysis of genomics data like ChIPseq and RNAseq.
