About the role
As an Associate, you will be in a role with managerial responsibility. You will be part of our local leadership team in Scotland.


You will have the opportunity to lead projects and will work closely with Directors and our clients to identify solutions and delivery plans.

As a key part of our sustainability team, you will tailor our approach to each situation and bring new ideas, allowing us to deliver our best work.

HDR provides support for continued professional development and career progression. This helps us to maintain our position as a world leading sustainability team. As an Associate you will also provide mentoring and support for junior colleagues.


We work in a wide range of sectors including tech/media/telecoms, datacentres, commercial/corporate real estate, finance, healthcare, education, hotels & leisure, industrial, transport and mixed-use.


Our services are varied but include:

  • Supporting the sustainable design, construction, or refurbishment of buildings (including relevant rating systems such as BREEAM, LEED and WELL)
  • Net Zero Carbon strategies
  • Energy and Resource efficiency assessments (including ESOS compliance)
  • Development of Environmental & Energy Management Systems (ISO14001/ISO50001)
  • Verification of Corporate Sustainability Reporting (including SECR)
  • Regulatory compliance activity such as UK Emissions Trading System and Environmental Permitting

Qualifications

Skills and Experience

Essential:


  • Degree or master's level education in a relevant discipline (e.g., Engineering / Environmental / Energy / Sustainability / Scientific), OR equivalent experience
  • A sound understanding of environmental and sustainable development principles, the ability to describe them to others, and make the case for action.
  • Ability to lead delivery teams and work collaboratively and cooperatively with clients and colleagues.
  • An ability to maintain the highest standards of professionalism and integrity.
  • Ability to identify and manage strategic opportunities and risks, and the ability to influence, persuade and challenge others.
  • Knowledge of relevant standards and legislation (for your area of interest), particularly in the UK & Europe, and how to audit and assess compliance.
  • Excellent communication skills to be able to correspond effectively with clients, subcontractors, colleagues, and regulators.
  • The ability to research, collect, analyse, process, summarise and present information in a concise and effective form. This includes critical thinking and assessment.
  • Competency in key business tools (e.g. MS Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Browsers and Search Engines)

Desirable:


  • Good experience, ideally >7 years is typical for an Associate position. Experience in consultancy is preferred but not essential.
  • Appropriate professional membership based on your experience (e.g., Practitioner or Full Member of IEMA, Associate or Full Member of Energy Institute, or equivalents with CIBSE / Other organisations).
  • Any relevant industry accreditations relevant to your chosen areas of expertise (e.g., BREEAM Accredited Professional, BREEAM Assessor, LEED AP, WELL, Chartered Engineer / Chartered Environmentalist status etc.)
  • The ability and potential to learn quickly, desire to pursue chartered status (if not already achieved)
  • Driving license
  • Experience of monitoring contract staff or thirdparty appointments
  • Ability to mentor junior colleagues.
