    Job summary

    To provide advanced level specialist assessment, treatment and education of patients. To determine clinical diagnosis and orthopaedic management/treatment indicated, and to maintain records as an autonomous practitioner. To work independently and alongside orthopaedic knee consultants in clinic in an extended role listing for surgery, requesting investigations, and any further management.

    Main duties of the job

    To act as an independent practitioner demonstrating advanced knowledge and skills within musculoskeletal therapy with a specific specialism in the field of knee conditions. This includes the integration of research evidence in to practice via the process of advanced clinical reasoning and decision making.

    To use this knowledge to provide an advisory service to patients, physiotherapists and other healthcare professionals, GP's and consultants.

    To attend service level discussions/meetings relating to your area of work independently and as delegated by the relevant Senior Operational Manager.

    To support research and to contribute to the future development of the service.

    To contribute to the establishment of protocols, guidance and patient information for the development of the service

    Qualifications

    Essential

  • Degree in Physiotherapy or Occupational Therapy or equivalent
  • HCPC/NMC registered
  • Membership of appropriate clinical interest groups
  • Desirable

  • Master's degree in appropriate subject eg Orthopaedic medicine or evidence of study at this level
  • Membership of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy or College of Occupational Therapy or alternative
  • Experience

    Essential

  • Significant evidence of post qualification experience in managing musculoskeletal patients
  • Broad range of senior experience of orthopaedic and rehabilitation work
  • Extensive experience of working within a multidisciplinary team
  • High levels of skill and experience of leading/supervising a team.
  • Experience of service initiation
  • Desirable

  • Experience of writing medico-legal reports
  • Experience of working in consultant clinics
  • Experience of out-of-hours working - including management of the risks of unsupervised/lone working.
  • Comprehensive experience as clinical educator of students
