£20/HOUR


Akton are currently recruiting for a Projects Support Officer to join a local authority on a Fixed 12 month contract.


Role Profile -


To provide comprehensive support to service transformation/change projects in the Public Health and Wellbeing directorate, working across all projects that are part of the Councils community assets programme which takes a broad, shared approach to the use of assets to support wider wellbeing outcomes for residents and achieve economies of scale.


The Projects Support Officer will provide a range of project and operational support to service leads (Heads of Service), including undertaking a range of activities such as research, data analysis, briefing and report writing, as well as the implementation and project administrative activities to support the development and delivery of projects, in line with project plans and objectives.


The role is in the job family which focuses on working in partnership with internal and external stakeholders and will require a good level of communication and organisational skills involved in liaising at all levels internally as well as externally in order to ensure the delivery of high quality results.

***Will provide practical support and problem-solving skills, be able to collect and analyse information from a variety of sources and prepare basic reports/analysis to support the delivery of services. Role required to liaise with internal or external partner organisations.


Will from time to time need to operate with limited guidance and therefore demonstrate initiative and judgment to determine, address and resolve short term problems and issues.


Will be required to keep up to date with changes in policy/legislation/ contractual requirements in order to ensure service delivery is effective and complies with appropriate regulations.


Will provide support updating, monitoring and reporting on project plans, highlight reports, risk and issues logs, milestones and deliverables, to ensure time, cost and quality indicators are in line with approved project plans.

Undertake basic research and analysis in assigned project areas and contribute to the preparation of project briefs to support informed decision making and planning.

Provide a range of secretariat and administrative services, including coordinating and arranging task and finish groups, meetings and preparing papers, to support project management delivery.


Specific accountabilities-

  • To provide project and operational support to project leads to undertake a range of tasks such as project research, data analysis, briefing and report writing, as well as project administrative activities.
  • To provide support updating, monitoring and reporting on project plans, highlight reports, risk and issues logs, milestones and deliverables, to ensure time, cost and quality indicators are in line with approved project plans
  • Undertake basic research and analysis in assigned project areas and contribute to the preparation of project briefs to support informed decision making and planning.

  • Assist the project team to complete tasks and implement project plans to ensure agreed outcomes are achieved
  • Communicate with relevant stakeholders to provide updates regarding project implementations
  • Provide a range of secretariat and administrative services, including coordinating and arranging task and finish groups, meetings and preparing papers, to support project management delivery
  • Write minutes, update action logs and chase and track actions related to projects
  • Balance competing demands on own time, through effective prioritisation of multiple project support activities in a high workload and politically sensitive environment
  • Developing and maintaining key relationships across divisions to ensure effective coordination and achievement of project objectives
  • Develop and maintain plans and timetables for implementation of the work streams.
  • Develop, prepare, and publish project documents (briefings, newsletters, highlight reports, risk register, issue logs etc), policies, procedures and guidance as necessary.

Person specification (knowledge, skills, experience and behaviours required in the role)

  • Practical experience of working on the implementation of change projects, using project management tools to achieve the desired outcome against agreed project plans.
  • Experience of using GoogleApps e.g. GMail, Doc, Sheets, Drive, Slides, ideally being selfsupporting in their use
  • Knowledge of core project management principles and disciplines
  • Knowledge and ability to work within a complex local government environment
  • The ability to work as part of a project team and to provide support to a project leads in ensuring the successful delivery of projects
  • The ability to gather, analyse and present data, prepare project plans, updates, briefings, newsletters, presentations, highlight and exception reports and to maintain issues logs, risk registers a
