    The Role & Key Responsibilities

    Surrey Police are looking to recruit a highly motivated and competent Grounds Maintenance Assistant to join the team based at Surrey Police Headquarters to help maintain our Estate.

    You will be part of a small hard-working team supporting the Head Gardener in all aspects of grounds maintenance and arboriculture services.

    You will hold a relevant professional qualification and / or equivalent experience for the role and a demonstrable understanding of key health and safety principles associated to grounds maintenance and safe working practices.

    Key Responsibilities Include;

  • Manage and develop the ground maintenance at Surrey Headquarters and other sites across the Surrey and Sussex Estate carrying out proactive and reactive works.
  • To carry out all aspects of the grounds maintenance to grassed areas, shrubs, flower beds and hedges ensuring areas are maintained to a high standard.
  • Ensuring access to buildings are maintained and pathways are kept clear
  • Ensure full compliance to health and safety and safe working practices when carrying out the role and using associated power tools.
  • Monitoring emails and job requests – providing updates on planned and completed works.
  • The position is based at Surrey Police Headquarters Monday - Friday and will include work at other sites across the police estate. It is therefore essential you hold a full driving license and pass a van driving assessment within 3 months of starting the role to allow you to drive police fleet vehicles.

    You will be expected to pass specific competency based training associated to equipment used for the role.

    Skills & Experience

  • Have relevant professional qualifications i.e. City & Guilds Institute
    Groundsmanship or equivalent experience
  • Full clean driving licence and experience of driving variety of vehicles
  • Ability to persuade and explain and build effective working relationships at all levels of the organisation, with service providers and stakeholders
  • Proven experience of working with power tools, grounds machinery and associated equipment to carry out their role.
  • Ability to work under pressure and on their own initiative, prioritising and responding to challenges as and when they arise.
  • Experience including computer software including Outlook
  • Understanding of and ability to work to relevant Health and Safety standards
