  • Job description

  • We are looking for an enthusiastic and conscientious individual to join our thriving Gainsborough Field Team.

You will be working as part of a diverse team to carry out routine maintenance, efficiently, safely and to a high standard.

This role is both a hands-on physical role with and will involve some office based work.

Activities can range from grass cutting using strimmers, robotic and ride on mowing equipment, clearing debris/blockages and tree work using chainsaws and chippers.

A good understanding on Health Safety & Wellbeing is essential.

You will also be responsible for:

  • Maintaining high standards of organisation within the depot grounds and equipment stores
  • Help ensure we maintain legal compliance with legislation such as Hand Arm Vibrations (HAV's), Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations (PUWER), Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations (LOLER) and Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH)
  • Help facilitate incident response training along with all aspects of the team organisation and planning training activities
  • Assist new starters on apprenticeship arrangements
  • Ensuring Environmental compliance through ongoing inspection and audits (SEMA) Site Environment Management Audits
  • Setting up procurement orders
  • Undertake utility services search
  • Communicate professionally with our partners and members of the public.


  • The team

  • The Operations Field team are based at Gainsborough. We deliver a maintenance program on rivers and watercourse across the area, we respond to flooding and environmental incidents both day and night. We provide advice and support to our colleagues and professional partners.
We also work across the country when called upon to assist other areas in incident response and environmental incidents.

  • Experience/skills required
  • Someone with Field team experience with good communication skills.
Ideally having the proven ability and be able to demonstrate the following:


  • Plan and organise the routine for the day with mínimal supervision
  • Deputise for the Lead Team Member (Foreman) in times of absence
  • Communicate at a variety of levels, both internally & externally
  • Excellent customer service skills both written and verbal
  • Selfmotivation, with the ability to work well in a team
  • Personal skills requirement: taking initiative, good time management, flexibility, problem solving and decision making
  • Good understanding of IT technology including smart phones and tablets and willing to learn our inhouse systems
  • Good understanding of the principles of health, safety, and wellbeing to ensure the safety of yourself and others
  • Knowledge of the PUWER and LOLER Regulations will be an advantage
  • You should have the necessary practical skills and an understanding in environmental awareness as well as a handson approach.

  • This is an 18 month fixed term position with the potential to become permanent.
A full UK driving licence is essential.

You will be required to have an incident role which involves participating in our 24 hour call-out rosters. This is currently for one week, every five/six weeks and will attract an additional payment. Training and workplace adjustment will be available.
