I am currently recruiting for a Communications Specialist to work on behalf of a leading local authority in Sheffield. The role can be done remotely for the right person (within the UK).


This is an exciting project to get involved in as it is very important to the health of the residents of Sheffield.


This role is responsible for providing a high-quality communications service for the programme, including campaign planning and delivery, some press and public relations support, advertising, and corporate internal and change communications.


Specific duties will include:


  • Research and write engaging copy, optimised for use across a variety of communications channels, including websites, social media, exhibitions, news media, newsletters and printed leaflets.
  • To actively take steps to minimise the communications team's and the wider organisation's impact on climate and the environment
  • Plan, organize, manage and evaluate marketing campaigns and activities from conception through to completion, in line with agreed service requirements and corporate brand guidelines.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with key stakeholders, customers, partners and external agencies, using clear evidence to persuade them in matters that may be complex or contentious.
  • To work with the designated manager and colleagues to prepare, implement, monitor and evaluate communications campaigns, plans and activities (both internal and external) ensuring such campaigns are delivered on time and within budget.
  • To ensure that agreed targets and campaigns outcomes are met.
  • As part of campaigns delivery and in order to achieve campaign outcomes, work with the media team to gain positive coverage through media releases, photo opportunities, features, video and media briefs.
  • To provide communications advice to colleagues, Executive Directors and other senior officers and elected members, continuously seeking ways to improve the quality, effectiveness and efficiency of that communication.
  • Experience of planning and delivering communications campaigns.
  • Experience of providing strategic communications advice with the strength to influence and challenge colleagues and senior staff.
  • Clear experience of devising, monitoring, and delivering against communications strategies and policies.
  • Excellent relationship management with demonstrated ability to develop effective relationships with colleagues and a range of internal and external stakeholders
  • Excellent writing skills and ability to translate complex messaging for differing audiences, both on and offline
  • Political sensitivity and a demonstratable ability to recognise, influence and manage the communications and public relations work relating to sensitive and sometimes controversial issues.
  • Ideally experience within public sector/local authority
**This role is to start ASAP and the hours of work are full time.
