About the role:


Working closely with the wider department, including Associate Directors and Strategic Business Partners you will develop strategies to create and sustain long-term, robust relationships with influencers in schools and colleges nationally to raise the profile of the University, Derby City, courses and our successes to support the University's recruitment targets.

Principal accountabilities:


  • Develop, lead and implement the Schools and Colleges Outreach and Engagement strategy. Work with the Director of External Relations, Associate Director and College Strategic Business Partners to establish targets and a fiveyear forecast for recruitment and respond to institutional imperatives to enhance diversity and quality of intake.
  • Lead the UK Schools and Colleges Liaison recruitment team and the direct line management of Schools and Colleges Liaison Officers and Regional Officers. To provide leadership, development and guidance to the team ensuring that all staff understand the Student Recruitment strategy to ensure the team's work delivers an integrated student recruitment campaign.
  • Work as a senior manager within the External Relations Department, identifying team working opportunities and working closely with other members of the Department to foster a one team ethos.
  • Take the lead on high level engagement with senior leaders across Schools, College, and Multi-Academy Trusts, to strategically and proactively target, build, account manage and maintain relationships with teachers and advisors in target schools and colleges across the country.
  • From the 5 year plan, develop, manage and deliver each of the university's schools and colleges annual recruitment plan to meet College recruitment targets. This will include recruitment exhibitions and fairs, oncampus and offcampus events and virtual sessions to promote the University and the City in order to generate prospective student and teacher/advisor leads.
  • Produce reports and strategic development plans for the Colleges, on behalf of External Relations, for university wide consideration in the future planning and target setting. Present at senior meetings to ensure institutional approval of decisions are data lead and meet University accountability obligations.
  • To analyse and interpret appropriate data and insights, including horizon scanning and political policy changes, in order to identify recruitment opportunities, minimise risk and ensure we are agile in the target areas.
  • Evaluate the impact of activity in achieving engagement and recruitment targets and make changes to strategy as appropriate.
  • Oversee and promote the use of the Customer Relationship Management system to target and track activity, manage relationships with schools/colleges, record and report on activity and provide a high level of customer service to schools and key stakeholders at key points in the recruitment journey, driving efficient staff and budgetary resources.
  • Create the vision and strategy for promotion material, then in consultation with the Content and Design Team oversee the delivery (physical POS, digital and print) to support outreach activity.
  • Work with the Strategic Communications Business Partner, Human Resources and the Student Employment agency to oversee the Student Employee programme and processes. Ensuring that all student employees representing of the University are of a high quality and adhere to University values and behaviours. Ensure all compliance processes are adhered to. Ensure the student experience adds to employability ambitions.
  • Manage and control the Schools and Colleges Liaison budget to maximise return on investment and deliver continuous improvement; Contribute to Schools and Colleges Liaison resource and budget planning.
  • Develop a cross functional working team relationship with Widening Participation and other appropriate University areas to promote the department and team across the university. Using expert knowledge, support new process/ systems or process/ system improvement and ensure good representation for Schools and Colleges Liaison.
  • Fully embrace a culture of continuous improvement which encourages team members to question the norms, try new things and be innovative and creative in their approach.
