    To ensure a viable, efficient, and reliable energy future for all As a Field Engineer / Welding Inspector (FE), you will be responsible to perform Surveillance to give confidence that the Activities are performed in accordance with the Contractor's Work Information.

    You will form part of a team with the primary role to deliver the Team Lead duties described in the contract and ensure that HPC Quality needs, targets and expectations are met.

    As the FE will be a staunch advocate of our Nuclear Safety Culture and help to embed this approach in all processes and activities undertaken on the Project.

    The scope will cover all Works associated with the construction of the designated section of the Project and the post holder will perform surveillance on the activities of the Works Contractors.

    The FE will have to record and report findings to the Construction and Quality Team, this will usually involve records to be recorded and saved by the FE and distributed accordingly In addition to reporting and liaising responsibilities, as the FE will be required to adhere to (and suggest enhancements and improvements to) company policies, procedures and protocols for construction, health & safety, and other functions.

    The role is 75% site based and 25% office based.

    The Field Engineer/Welding Inspector will be responsible for the following key duties:

    Check the Works are constructed in accordance with the contract and notify the Construction Superintendent of non-conformance request requirements.

    Contribute surveillance information to support KPI indicators.
    Endeavour to identify potential Quality issues before they arrive to enable mitigating actions.
    Support team instructions to take temporary measures to mitigate and keep works safe and within Quality standards.

    Ensure design decisions are not taken "in the field" by EDF Energy or contractors, but are considered and approved via a formal process.

    Ensure tasks are developed to quality in accordance with the company's requirement for health, safety and environment.
    Develop and maintain an understanding of construction drawings, construction activities, Quality Control Plans and Quality Inspection Records
    Ensure and monitor that Quality Inspection Records are taken and agreed before Works are covered up.
    Review Contractor performance against the authorised Quality Control Plan
    Bachelors / Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering
    A Welding Inspector qualification (e.g. 1 or equivalent) as well as a basic 'appreciation of NDT' qualification is strongly desirable.

    Higher level qualifications in both welding (CSWIP 3.and NDT (PCN or equivalent) would be desirable although are not essential for the fulfilment of this role.

    Experience in large power plant design, manufacture and construction
    Good working knowledge of Quality Management practices, methods and processes.
    Knowledge of the fabrication and installation of pressure systems.

    Depending on the scope covered, experience in structural steel, welded pre-fabrication of reinforcement cages and civil/mechanical interfaces is desirable.

    Experience in punchlist checks and QA/QC experience
    Broad knowledge and wide understanding of the Engineering Construction industry, materials, trades methods and legal requirements
    Excellent organisation, delegation, and good communication skills (knowledge of French can be an advantage).
    Proven experience of writing diaries which are accurate, concise and with relevance to the particular form of contract.
    And the ability to maintain quality standards in a high-pressure environment.
    Able to establish appropriate working relationships with the contractors.

    Knowledge of the documentation used in safety critical construction and fabrication environments such as Inspection and Test Plans, End of Erection Status Reports.
