Housing Registrations and Allocations Team Leader

As part of our vision to transform housing services the Housing Needs & Homelessness Service has recently been redesigned.

Our ambition is to create a service which is understood, fair, accessible and residents are active participants in their journey towards finding a settled home, underpinned by the new NEC technology being implemented.


We have a number of roles and are seeking dynamic and collaborative individuals to join our management team to provide the best possible service to support tackling homelessness in Croydon.

As a Team Leader you will have direct management responsibility for staff and be responsible for the continued development and effective day to day management of the administration of the Choice Based Letting system.


About the role:


  • To ensure that the council's Choice Based Lettings System is maintained to a high standard including good practice.
  • To ensure that housing registration and allocations assessments are carried out efficiently and effectively in compliance with legislation and the council policy.
  • Ensure and monitor that allocations are made in accordance with council policy and procedures and to implement service improvements where required.
  • Ensure the provision of high quality services to customers, by leading and motivating the team and embedding a culture of excellent customer service that delivers great community outcomes

About you

  • Extensive knowledge of issues relating to the allocation and letting of properties within a local authority, housing association or other social housing organisation.
  • Knowledge of housing options available to those in housing need.
  • Experience of managing a frontline housing service such lettings, allocations, or homelessness
  • Experience of developing allocations and lettings processes.
  • Experience of working with housing registers, choicebased lettings, and housing allocations systems.
  • Excellent negotiating, influencing and liaison skills to successfully promote the council to private sector landlords and accommodation providers and market housing options to customers, staff, and stakeholders
  • Experience of leading and supporting teams to create a collaborative culture that is adaptable to new challenges and ways of working, focused on the customer experience and outcomes
  • Ability to work in a collaborative way to transform service delivery including the ability to manage stakeholder relationships.
