    Job Details

    The Breast Surgery team at St George's Hospital wishes to appoint an ST1/ST2 level trust doctor to join the Breast Surgery team. The post would provide an ideal professional development platform from which the appointee may develop a portfolio of experience, although the post is not part of a formal training programme. the post holder will gain experience in all aspects of Breast Surgery from outpatient clinics, MDT attendance, through to theatre and follow up afterwards. There is also the option to gain experience in Endocrine Surgery. This post also supports General Surgery, covering on-calls with the main responsibilities of the post to care for the patients admitted to the wards for elective or emergency surgery and attending the Emergency Department.

    Available to start from April 2024.

    Main duties of the job

    Main Duties/Key Results Areas:

    The appointee will have a continuing responsibility for the care of patients under the care of the Breast Surgery, Endocrine Surgery and General Surgery teams, including all administrative duties associated with patient care. On-call commitments are with the General Surgery team, and daytime commitments are with the Breast and Endocrine Surgery team. The appointee will be expected to competent at the 'senior house officer level' in all aspects of general and emergency surgery.

    Job responsibilities

    The post holder will be expected to agree mutually agreeable cross cover arrangements with his/her colleagues within the firm and for these arrangements to be documented in writing. Notification of annual or other arranged leave, and cover arrangements, must be at least six weeks prior to the proposed leave, and must be made in writing to the Service Management for General Surgery and Breast Surgery, approved by a consultant within the appropriate team.

    The post holder will be required to participate actively in the education programme of the General Surgery and Breast Surgery Departments, attending clinical meetings within the relevant Department. The post holder will be expected to work with and support the Physician Associations, Breast Care Nurses and Advanced Nurse Practitioners.
