Description
Specialist Sensory Teaching Assistant (Hearing Impairment) part time 3 days per week (22 hours, 12 minutes). TTO, Grade G + SSA.


An opportunity has arisen within the Low Incidence Needs Team (LINT), Gateshead Council, for a Specialist Sensory Teaching Assistant to work within the area of Deafness/Hearing Impairment.

LINT works across the age range within both mainstream and special school settings. Applicants will be expected to work flexibly where required across Gateshead.

We are looking for applicants who meet the Higher-Level Teaching Assistant Standards or hold an equivalent qualification.


Successful applicants will be required to achieve BSL Level 3 within 3 years.**Applicants must have knowledge of the impact of Deafness/hearing loss upon learning and development, a good understanding of child development and learning processes and barriers to learning.

They should have experience of the national and early years curriculum, programmes and strategies.


Experience of working with Deaf/hearing impaired children and young people is preferable along with use of specialist resources and technologies to support children and young people with hearing impairment.

Experience of using British Sign Language alongside speech to facilitate communication is essential.
