People and Pay (PAP) is the HR and payroll division, delivering cutting-edge and premium payroll software and solutions to an exceptional range of clients.

These span from small entrepreneurial enterprises to large corporations, inclusive of top-name brands across industries such as retail, manufacturing, financial services and the public sector to name but a few.


About the role


As a Payroll Senior based in Grangemouth with hybrid working (generally 2 days in the office), you will report to your Pay & Bill Team Leader or Pay & Bill Manager, supporting them with the operation and profitability of the team and client whilst balancing the management of a client portfolio of your own.

You will handle escalations of technical and commercial queries from Pay & Bill Assistants and Executives, and be the primarily cover for the Team Leader when they are not available.


You'll ensure accurate and timely outsourced payroll production for various clients in accordance with statutory regulations, focusing on excellent customer service.

  • Managing your own client portfolio which will consist of some of the larger more complex clients.
  • Completing end to end payroll processing.
  • Reviewing payrolls processed by less senior members of the team.
  • Assisting team members with payroll elements they are unfamiliar with e.g. midmonth salary changes, holiday pay queries, tax queries etc.
  • Processing / publishing BACS files for approval.
  • Calculating the monthly PAYE due and sending the relevant funds requests.
  • Complex query resolution.
  • Completion and review of manual calculations.
  • Service multiple clients with the focus on support of the team and the Team Leader, to deliver excellent service to our clients.
  • Assisting with training and development of team members.
  • Writing and updating procedure notes where necessary.
  • Completing team administration.
  • Positively contributing to the team and its overall future development and success.
  • Supporting and covering for the Team Leader when they are unavailable.
  • Demonstrating company values and setting an example for peers and new staff.
  • Adhering to internal policies and procedures.
The ideal applicant will have strong practical experience of understanding payroll.

This will include strong knowledge of statutory and legislative regulations, including workplace pensions, and proven experience in MS Office, in particular Excel.

You will have knowledge of month-end and year-end returns and balancing with the ability to perform manual calculations, as and when required.

You will have previously supported and/or supervised other payroll professionals, contributing positively to a team. The professional payroll qualification and/or previous experience of working in a multi-frequency payroll environment are advantageous.
