    Job Summary:

    The Senior Health and Safety Manager will lead our health and safety initiatives and ensure the highest standards of safety across all construction projects. The successful candidate will oversee the development and implementation of health and safety policies, provide strategic direction and drive continuous improvement in our health and safety practices. This role is predominantly on-site and working from home on a regular basis is not possible.

    Monday to Friday 37.5 hours per week.
    Salary up to £85k dependent on experience.

    Main Responsibilities:

    1. Provide strategic leadership and guidance to the health and safety team, site managers and subcontractors, ensuring compliance with all relevant health and safety legislation, including the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations (CDM) and the Building Safety Act (BSA).
    2. Spearhead the development of initiatives taken by the Health and Safety Committee to enhance safety practices and procedures across all construction projects.
    3. Maintain day-to-day working relationships with Project Executives, Senior Project Managers, Construction Managers and other stakeholders to ensure alignment of health and safety objectives with project goals.
    4. Be actively involved in the process of assessing the health and safety competency of contractors before appointment, during their employment and at the close of their contract, ensuring compliance with company standards and regulatory requirements.
    5. Attend project meetings as requested and providing health and safety expertise and support as needed
    6. Foster and maintain active day-to-day relationships with operatives on site, promoting a cooperative working relationship and ensuring adherence to health and safety procedures.
    7. Conduct regular site inspections and audits to identify hazards, assess risks, ensure compliance with health and safety standards and oversee the implementation of corrective actions.
    8. Audit and review the implementation of the Canary Wharf Group Health Safety and Welfare Policy and procedures set out in our safety handbook. Provide reports as required by to the Associate Director of Health and Safety and the Director of Fire and Life Safety.
    9. Coordinate and/or conduct presentations for project staff members regarding health and safety concerns, conduct daily safety inductions and oversee safety training sessions.
    10. Serve as the primary point of contact for regulatory agencies, participate in regulatory inspections and ensure timely compliance with all health and safety requirements
    11. Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to evaluate the effectiveness of health and safety programs, and prepare regular reports for senior management
    12. Stay abreast of emerging health and safety trends, regulations and best practices and leverage this knowledge to drive continuous improvement initiatives and enhance our safety performance
    13. Work closely with other departments within the Canary Wharf Group to ensure that health and safety considerations are integrated into all aspects of construction projects.
    14. Collaborate with the Health and Safety management department to share best practices, coordinate initiatives and ensure consistency in health and safety standards across Canary Wharf.
    15. Lead accident and incident investigations, analyse root causes and develop preventive measures to mitigate future risks while ensuring timely reporting and compliance with regulatory requirements.
    16. Stimulate interest and enthusiasm for the promotion of a safe and healthy working environment, among all those involved in, or associated with, construction undertaken by Canary Wharf Group plc.
    17. Promote Canary Wharf Group in the wider safety and construction arena.
    18. Carry out any other reasonable duties as requested by the Associate Director of Health and Safety

    What We Require of You:

    1. At least 5 years' of progressive experience working on major construction projects as a Senior Health and Safety Manager or Health and Safety Manager, with a track record of leadership and successful implementation of health and safety programs.
    2. Have a formal, recognised Health and Safety qualification, meeting at least NVQ level 5 standards (or equivalent).
    3. Working towards or membership of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) at chartered level.
    4. In-depth knowledge of UK health and safety legislation, regulations and standards applicable to the construction industry, including CDM regulations and the Building Safety Act.
    5. Proven experience in leading and managing health and safety on a construction site, with strong leadership, communication and interpersonal skills.
    6. Demonstrated ability to develop and implement effective health and safety policies, procedures, and training program.
    7. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess risks, analyse data and develop practical solutions
    8. Strong project management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and meet deadlines.
