Description
A highly experienced, practical and knowledgeable Senior Structural Engineer is sought to provide technical design support for a director running multiple mixed-use, residential, retail, leisure and commercial projects.
The successful candidate will have a genuine interest in working on multiple project types, collaborating with design team and contractors, visiting multiple sites to undertake surveys and inspections, and be able to draw on their experience to develop simple, workable and buildable solutions to complex structural problems.
Essential criteria for the role:Must have a minimum of 7 years experience, particularly in cut and carve refurbishment/reconfiguration/repurposing of large existing structures, together with new-build residential developments.
Be a credible and professional Chartered Engineer (MIStructE or MICE)/working towards their chartershipA genuine interest in environmental matters and an understanding of embodied carbon and its application in structural design
Able to design structural elements in all the common building materials (i.e., steel, concrete, masonry and timber) using hand and approved design software such as Tedds, Tekla Structures and ideally SCIA Engineer
Have excellent written and verbal communication skills and experience of working collaboratively with clients, contractors, project managers and design consultants
Able to produce clear practical hand sketches and ideally have experience of using Bluebeam software
Able to plan and organise structural surveys and inspections and be able to produce well-written detailed reports and specifications
Able to problem-solve, particularly site-related matters, and to work to agreed deadlines with minimum supervision
Able to mentor graduate and junior engineers
The successful candidate must have a proven track record of relevant experience coupled with a genuine desire to progress.
